Description

This is a rewarding opportunity to join one of the UK’s leading independent schools and play a key role in our vibrant boarding community.

As a Matron at Uppingham School, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the pastoral, medical and emotional well-being of pupils aged 11–18 in our boarding houses. Working alongside the Housemaster/Housemistress and the wider pastoral team, you will help ensure every pupil feels happy, supported and safe within their boarding environment.

The role combines pastoral and health care responsibilities, with safeguarding and house administration, providing a vital link between pupils, parents and staff. You will foster a friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the house, act as a trusted point of contact for pupils and help them establish positive routines that support both their well-being and academic success.

About you

You will be an empathetic and proactive individual who enjoys working with young people. Along with your strong communication, organisational and administrative skills, you will also be confident in using Microsoft Office.

Previous experience of working with young people is essential, while a Practice Certificate in Boarding Standards/Child Care or qualifications such as ELSA or MHFA would also be advantageous.

Above all, you will have a warm, approachable manner and a genuine interest in supporting young people as they navigate school life.
