Safer Communities Lead

The Safer Communities Lead will be part of a team responsible for developing and implementing a transformational work programme to build safer streets and stronger communities across Northumbria.

You will contribute to the delivery of the PCC’s Police and Crime Plan and support the PCC to lobby and influence national policy and legislative development, whilst promoting a problem-solving, prevention and public health approach to building safer and stronger communities.

The role will cover a wide range of community safety themes including hate, cohesion and equality, diversity and inclusion.

Key roles of this post

1. Support the PCC to deliver against her Public Sector Equality Duty, leading the delivery and review of our Equality Objectives and leading positive change for our communities, partners and workforce.

2. Creatively use problem solving techniques as well as qualitative and quantitative data to identify opportunities to deliver the aims of the Police and Crime Plan and public priorities.

3. Develop networks and strong relationships with partners, including voluntary and statutory partners, collaborating where appropriate in response to local need.

4. Provide support to the PCC at key meetings, events and visits by sharing knowledge, making connections and taking forward actions.

6. Develop strategies, policies and action plans across a range of community safety areas to assist delivery of the PCC’s Police and Crime Plan.

8. Assist the PCC to hold the Chief Constable to account in respect of community safety themes, providing input to the scrutiny programme.

9. Carry out other duties as compatible with the role, providing resilience where required.
