Job Title: Director of Digital Transformation Programme
Department: IT
Reports to: Director Finance, IT and Estates
Location: Hybrid (regular travel required for meetings)
Contract Type: Fixed term contract (initially 18 months, with possible extension)
Hours:  minimum 28 hours per week
Salary: Up to £80,000 (pro rata)


Purpose of the Role
The Director of Digital Transformation will be responsible for the development and delivery of our Digital Roadmap, providing leadership across the organisation to:

  • Improve operational efficiency and user experience in the delivery of our supporter, applicant, recipient and volunteering journeys;
  • Enhance accessibility to our services;
  • Enabling HD to leverage existing data (including appropriate use of AI) and extend the range of data sources to provide deeper  insights into performance and impact, which HD will use to improve decision-making, resource allocation and service delivery as well as grow income, based on evidence;
  • improve reporting and data visualisation
  • implement scalable solutions and technology, that can grow in line with HD's strategic goals; and
  • implement and sustain a high level of data protection and cyber security.

Working collaboratively across departments, the postholder will develop a clear and actionable digital transformation programme, agree priorities and budgets with Digital Transformation Programme Board members, recruit the necessary resources and/or consultancy support to deliver the benefits of digital transformation.
The postholder will be the de facto Chief Technology Officer, with the full remit for IT services and is supported by an established IT team of 9 (8FTE).


Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

  • Develop the Digital Roadmap in conjunction with key stakeholders across the organisation to meet the strategic priorities of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
  • Work closely with the Director of Performance Marketing and Communications to develop a new Data Strategy which will underpin the implementation of a Customer Data Platform
  • Work closely with teams across the organisation tasked with developing and implementing change in how we deliver our services, in particular the Head of Service Design and Development
  • Build partnerships with external stakeholders (e.g. corporate partners, service users, suppliers) to support successful delivery and skill transfer
  • Engage with the Head of Commercial in sourcing potential pro bono advice and support
Programme Management
  • Build robust business cases for each stage of the digital transformation, including measures of success relating to improved digital maturity and organisational effectiveness
  • Support the Board-led Digital Transformation Programme Board, ensuring they have timely and sufficient information to enable them to carry out their responsibilities
  • Ensure each stage of the programme has clear project plans, decision-points, appropriate resource allocation and active management of risks and opportunities
  • Deliver the programme to time and budget
Technology and Innovation
  • Identify and champion new digital technologies, processes and solutions that might contribute to the achievement of the digital transformation goals, ensuring solutions have longevity and are sustainable and affordable into the future
  • Develop a scorecard for digital maturity which can be tracked over a number of years, helping to demonstrate the outcome of our investment in digital and data solutions
  • Support the IT team to develop and implement good practices in design, development, testing and documentation of all solutions and databases deployed across the organisation
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with Hearing Dogs policies for Data Protection and other IT related policies
  • Implement measures to continuously enhance cyber security
Measures of success
  • Delivery of the agreed Digital and Data Roadmap to time and budget
  • Improved digital maturity scores
  • Achievement of Cyber Essentials accreditation
Working Conditions
  • Some out-of-hours work and travel will be required for events or meetings.
  • Our IT team is primarily located at our Buckinghamshire base, but this role can also be on a hybrid basis.
