Can you do it?
Working closely with experienced Developers and Product Owners, you’ll help design, develop, and support applications that power our data and research platforms. You’ll join a team that values mentorship, teamwork, and innovation offering you the support and structure to learn, experiment, and grow.
You’ll have the chance to work on small features early on, progressing to more complex components as your confidence and skills develop. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a long-term modernisation programme, moving existing systems into new technologies and shaping how our software evolves for the future.

You will be responsible for:
- Contributing to the development of software that delivers new features and improvements across front- and back-end systems.
- Writing and deploying clean, scalable, testable, and secure code with guidance from senior developers.
- Assisting with technical support and issue resolution to maintain reliable, high-quality systems.
- Collaborating with Product Owners to understand requirements, define tasks, and manage workload via Azure DevOps.
- Supporting our modernisation journey by helping to transition legacy platforms into more efficient, sustainable solutions.
This role is ideal for someone eager to develop their technical skills while contributing to projects that matter. You’ll gain exposure to a broad mix of tools and technologies, and SQL supported by access to training resources and guidance of experienced mentors who will help you progress towards becoming a senior developer.
Is this 'you'?
To be successful, you will have:
- Some hands-on experience with at least one of these modern development languages or frameworks - .NET, Java or Python.
- A basic understanding of SQL and working with relational databases.
- A natural curiosity for learning new languages, tools, and approaches.
- The ability to collaborate effectively within a team and share ideas openly.
- A positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to help and continuously improve.

Working hours are 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, hybrid working is available. Located in Greater Manchester (initially based in Stockport with a move to Manchester Science Park mid to late 2026).
