Location: Administratively based out of Swarkestone, Derbyshire, the day-to-day of this role requires travel across the East Midlands region to support works on parts of the Ashby, Leicestershire & Grand Union.

Hours: The post holders will be required to work an annualised hour’s system which is Monday to Friday, averaging 37 hours per week. Overtime and possible weekend work applicable when reacting to emergency repairs that help to get our waterways open to our customers.
Our team and opportunity
We are looking for a Site Supervisor to join our Direct Services team. As the Trust continues to evolve and develop, so has our recognition that excellence in customer service is essential for our long-term success. We are looking for an organised and engaging Site Supervisor, who genuinely believes and demonstrates that a positive customer experience is central to how they work and how they set expectations of their team.
You will also care and ensure that health & safety and welfare issues are communicated effectively and promoted within your area of responsibility, understanding your responsibilities for and fulfilling your duties in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures. You will ideally possess carpentry skills or be experienced in bricklaying. A good knowledge of Health and Safety is essential including risk assessments, method statements and temporary works. This is a hands on role that involves performing construction activities alongside general supervisory responsibilities.

Key responsibilities
- Lead and motivate a small team on construction and maintenance tasks.
- Plan and supervise daily work, ensuring safety and quality.
- Support apprentices and volunteers with guidance and mentoring.
- Coordinate with teams and contractors to deliver projects.
- Manage tools, equipment, and site logistics.
- Report incidents and promote site safety.
- Assist with ordering materials and tracking costs.
- Take responsibility for on site paperwork requirements.
About you
We’re looking for someone to take the lead with a hands-on approach, experience in construction or maintenance, ideally with a background in leading works on site. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential, along with a focus on safety and quality. You should be flexible, proactive, and comfortable using tools, equipment, good IT skills, this is predominantly a onsite position with occasional office working to collaborate with team management.
Skills & Qualifications
- NVQ Level II or National Diploma in a relevant subject (Carpentry, Joinery, Bricklaying).
- Experience leading or supervising a team, ideally within a construction environment.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and ability to enforce safe working practices on site.
- Competent in using tools and equipment.
- Comfortable using a smartphone and work-related apps. Laptop and site tablet
- Full and current UK driving license.
