About ORP

Olive Ridley Project (ORP) is on a mission to protect sea turtles and their habitats through rescue and conservation medicine, scientific research, and educational outreach. At the core of our work is a passionate and dedicated team of scientists, conservationists, citizen scientists and volunteers. We pride ourselves on being able to collaborate with a wide range of diverse groups in order to reach our goal and fill data gaps in sea turtle conservation. ORP is at the forefront of sea turtle conservation, influencing local policy makers, fishing communities and collaborating with research institutes. We are headquartered in the UK and have bases in Kenya, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, and Seychelles.

We are a growing and ambitious charity at the forefront of sea turtle conservation, working alongside fishing communities, researchers, and policymakers to create practical, evidence-based solutions to some of the most complex challenges facing our oceans. At the heart of ORP is a passionate, collaborative team united by a shared purpose and a deep respect for the natural world.

About Olive Ridley Project – Kenya

Olive Ridley Project – Kenya (ORP – Kenya), registered NGO-EPFPJ6 in Kenya, is a branch of Olive Ridley Project. We have been operating in Diani Beach, Kwale County, since 2018. Initially focusing on the in-water monitoring of sea turtles in the Diani-Chale Marine National Reserve, our programmes now include aerial drone surveys, Jumba Turtle Patrol nesting beach monitoring, and a variety of education and community outreach initiatives, including a community-led conservation programme across eleven fishing communities. We work in collaboration with local authorities, communities, and partners to achieve our goals.

About the education outreach assistant role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Education Outreach Assistant to join our team and support our expanding education and community outreach initiatives in Kenya. In this role, you will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders – from local authorities and fishing communities to students and visitors – to foster sea turtle conservation.

Beyond planning and executing hands-on activities, you will play a key role in tracking our success through structured reporting and analysis. This position is ideal for a candidate with a social science or conservation background who is motivated to combine community-led engagement with a structured Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE) approach, ensuring our programmes create a measurable, lasting impact.

Why join ORP – Kenya?

By joining the ORP – Kenya team, you will work closely with dedicated colleagues across programmes, communications, and leadership, all united by a shared commitment to protecting sea turtles and their habitats. We support flexible working and value balance, recognising that great work happens when people feel trusted, supported, and empowered.

If you are motivated by purpose and want your work to contribute to lasting environmental impact, this role offers the chance to apply your skills to something that truly matters. Your work will directly enhance sea turtle conservation efforts, and through our commitment to learning and evaluation, you will be able to see and measure the tangible difference your activities make in marine ecosystems and the future of our oceans.

Main activities & responsibilities

  • Support in planning and running all education and community outreach activities, including but not limited to our Sea Turtle Ambassador programme; student, youth, and visitor engagements; workshops; and our annual Diani Sea Turtle Festival.
  • Assist in monitoring, learning, and evaluation (MLE) processes to track the progress and impact of outreach programmes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, such as local authorities, fishers, and community members.
  • Co-create social media and storytelling content relating to programme activities.
  • Design educational materials for programmes and activities.
  • Report and document all programme activities, contributing to internal learning and stakeholder updates.
