Job Title: Education Officer
Salary: £27,000 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: Part-time (3 days/week – ideally Wednesday to Friday with some flexibility, roughly 7 hours/day).
Responsible to: Education Manager

This is an ideal opportunity to become involved in one of the hidden treasures of London. Covering 1.5 acres of land, Vauxhall City Farm is home to over 90 animals and provides a chance for Londoners to meet farm animals face to face. It also provides opportunities, education, and training for people in the local community and beyond.

Overall purpose of the job

To support the delivery and implementation of the current and future educational programmes at Vauxhall City Farm. To engage with members of the local community such as young people, schools, families, and youth organisations by providing high workshops, activities events. To market the educational opportunities of Vauxhall City Farm to schools and organisations within the local area and surrounding London Boroughs.

Key Responsibilities

  • To promote and support the delivery of educational programmes at Vauxhall City Farm around the areas of farming, animal care, food production, wellbeing, and environmental/sustainability themes.
  • To support the development of programmes that meet the diverse needs of the audiences that visit Vauxhall City Farm.
  • To help build and maintain relationships with schools, educational organisations and community groups in Lambeth and the surrounding boroughs.
  • To support the Education Manger with creation, design and print of educational resources to be used alongside the programmes at Vauxhall City Farm.
  • To ensure that all Health and Safety requirements for schools and visiting children are implemented and adhered to.
    To ensure appropriate Safeguarding of children and young people in accordance with the safeguarding policy.
  • To keep Education spreadsheets, documents and relevant administration processes and procedures up to date.
  • To attend education related meetings representing Vauxhall City Farm with or in lieu of Education Manager.
  • To assist with administration relating to the educational programmes at Vauxhall City Farm.
  • To assist on the publicity and marketing of education programmes, events, and activities.
  • To collaborate with other members of Vauxhall City Farm staff to improve and maintain the interpretation of The Farm.
  • To assist with certain fundraising and marketing schemes and events.
  • To follow all Vauxhall City Farm policies and procedures, especially equal opportunities, health and safety and child protection/safeguarding.
  • To work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Other duties as required.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience supporting and/or delivering educational activities/workshops for diverse audiences in a formal or informal education environment.
  • Commitment to and enthusiasm for education, conservation, and the environment.
  • A practical and enthusiastic approach to learning outside of the classroom environment with some knowledge of relevant areas of interest, e.g. countryside, environment, farming, or gardening.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – with the ability to present and
    relate to people of all ages.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent literacy, numeracy, and IT skills, with the ability to keep accurate records.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and health safety practices.
  • Comfortable working with and handling animals.
  • Willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

Desirable

  • Youth work experience/qualifications
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Knowledge of or a willingness to learn about animal husbandry and welfare.
  • Experience designing or creating educational content and/or resources.
