We are an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3 to 18. We have a school roll of over 500 students. Approximately 15% of the students are boarders. Reflecting the cosmopolitan community of Cambridge, on average 25% of students originate from overseas, from around 30 countries. The Teacher of Speech and Drama plays a key role in enriching this vision, complementing the wider department by inspiring enthusiasm for Drama as a subject, developing students’ performance skills, and fostering a genuine love of theatre in all aspects of their work. St Mary’s School, Cambridge, is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced full-time LAMDA Drama Teacher to deliver high-quality drama tuition to students in preparation for LAMDA examinations. Teaching is carried out predominantly in pairs (2:1 ratio) for 30-minute sessions per week, following the LAMDA syllabus. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing students for and entering them into LAMDA examinations, which are conducted on-site at the school. Working Hours Full-time position during term-time with occasional out-of-hours commitment for performances, showcases, or exam days as needed. Key Responsibilities The Teacher of Speech & Drama (LAMDA) will: • plan and deliver engaging and effective LAMDA lessons in line with the current syllabus across a range of grades (2 – 8), and disciplines (e.g. Acting, Verse & Prose, Public Speaking); teach students in pairs (2:1 format) or solo learners for 30-minute weekly sessions; • • prepare and support students for LAMDA exams, ensuring high standard of achievement and progression; • organise and manage examination entries, liaising with the LAMDA exams board and school administration to ensure smooth coordination; • encourage confidence, creativity, and performance skills in students; • maintain regular communication with parents/s and guardians regarding progress and exam outcomes; • contribute to the wider life of the Performing Arts Department, including showcases, events, and extracurricular activities where appropriate.
