Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Nursing Assistants to join our team on the Palliative Care Unit in Wansbeck General Hospital.

Our aim is to provide high standards of care to patients with complex needs, with an emphasis on excellent symptom control and/or end of life care of patients with a palliative illness.

Candidates should have a keen interest in palliative care and possess excellent communication skills although training and development is part of our ethos.

Main duties of the job

To care and support patients with a palliative illness and their families including the provision of emotional support.

Good communication with patients, relatives, colleagues.

To perform personal care and clinical interventions delegated by registered nurses and nurse associates including basic observations, catheter care, pressure area care and assisting with nutritional intake.

The collection of equipment and the safe use and decontamination of such equipment between each use.

The checking of equipment, stock levels and expiry dates re-stocking and re-ordering supplies as necessary.

IT skills especially in relation to the use of nerve centre.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Completion of a competency-based programme or equivalent relevant experience
  • Level 3 qualification in a healthcare related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous care experience in a health or social care setting
