Join our team in an exciting and varied role, oversee the development of our on-site café and support residents to gain catering and kitchen skills!
Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney, based in Ditchingham is home to one of the UK’s most beautiful charity shops, drawing in bargain hunters and day trippers to the former convent set in 4 beautiful acres. Our café is a real jewel in the crown of the site, nestled in orchard courtyard it offers fresh food and cakes, made on-site each day by the people we are supporting out of homelessness. As catering manager, you will bring your own flare to the operation of the café, working with the wider team to develop our offer and make it even more amazing than it already is.
The people we support, who we call companions, live and work on-site, very soon this cohort will number over 50 individuals spread across 5 different houses. As part of the support package they receive, we provide prepared meals 5 days a week and access to food and kitchen facilities where they can prepare their own meals for the remaining two days. As catering manager, you will support the team of companion chefs to plan, order and execute the prepared meals whilst also leading on the essential work of ensuring that there are enough options available to our companions to cater for themselves fully on other days.
This role offers a unique opportunity to bring your creative, organisational and entrepreneurial skills to a charity that really supports its people. A knowledge of catering, particularly around the regulations involved in operating a safe catering environment is essential as safety and quality are our main priorities.
To flourish in this role, you must be able to communicate effectively and have personality suited to motivating people who come with a range of complex needs, the rewards of a positive approach, especially when witnessed through the development of our companions is one of the greatest benefits of working at Emmaus.

Emmaus is a truly unique charity with a support offer unlike anything else in the sector, it is therefore highly recommended that you visit the site and speak to the team prior to applying for the role. Having a strong catering background as well as holding a food hygiene level three certificate is essential.
We have big plans to expand our catering offer over the next two years introducing evening meals and a breakfast service for our upcoming B&B project, this means there is a great opportunity for the right candidate to grow into a new more senior role with us.
