Autism West Midlands are a passionate values lead Charity based in Birmingham and we are looking for an Assistant Management Accountant to cover a 12-month fixed term maternity leave.

Our passionate, expert staff and volunteers work across all age groups and abilities, by providing personalised support.

The finance team is based at our colourful and friendly Head Office in Touchbase Pears, Sense, Selly Oak, which is just a few minutes’ walk from Selly Oak train station.

The position a hybrid role working 37 hours per week.

As the Assistant Management Accountant, some key responsibilities are:

  • To ensure that the monthly management reports are prepared accurately
  • To highlight and facilitate the understanding and interpretation of the key variances to historical data and previous forecasts and budgets
  • To ensure that sales invoices are raised in a timely and accurate fashion on Xero
  • To ensure that cash is collected promptly in order to strengthen the cash flow of the Charity
  • To Manage bank payments & transfers
  • To accurately calculate monthly prepayments, accruals, deferred and accrued income
  • To accurately prepare balance sheet and bank reconciliations on a regular basis
  • To support the preparation of the annual budget and liaise with budget holders on a regular basis
  • To assist the Financial Controller with the Annual Statutory Audit
  • To facilitate a centralised appointeeship service for the people we look after where Autism West Midlands has been appointed as their corporate appointee (previous experience of this is not essential)

What we are looking for:

  • A can-do positive attitude, along with commercial awareness
  • An ability to work to monthly deadlines
  • Proficient in excel and in the use of financial systems, AWM use the Xero accounting package. (Knowledge of Xero is desirable but not essential)
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working with in a management accounting function
  • An understanding and commitment to equality of opportunity
  • Hold or currently studying towards a relevant accounting qualification i.e. AAT, CIMA, ACCA, ACA (desirable)
