SUMMARY
The Government Relations Associate (UKI) works under the guidance and direction of the Government Relations Counsel (UKI). The individual supports the government work of the UKI District Manager’s Office and its activities, which further the Church Manual-based mission of the Committee on Publication: “to correct in a Christian manner impositions on the public in regard to Christian Science, injustices done Mrs. Eddy or members of this Church by the daily press, by periodicals, or by circulated literature of any sort.” This position requires metaphysical and professional maturity and substantive contribution, including sound organization, project management, critical thinking and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Government Relations Associate (UKI) supports the Government Relations work undertaken at the District Manager’s Office. Under the supervision of the Government Relations Counsel (UKI), the incumbent will:
- Ensure the work of Parliamentary Monitors (PMs) is carried out to ensure that a space in law is preserved for the practice of Christian Science, including Christian Science nursing, within the seven UKI governing jurisdictions. This may include:
- Supervise and monitor the work of the PM Team;
- Review bi-monthly PM reports produced by the PM Team Leader for amendments/actions prior to finalising and distribution by the PM Team Leader. Provide guidance to the PM Team Leader on content;
- Monitor the timeliness of alerts requiring action;
- Provide guidance and advice in the running and supervision of the PM team including:
- Content for the bi-monthly online meetings and the annual in-person meeting of the PMs and attend such meetings;
- Training PMs in specialist PM skills, as required;
- Assist with the recruitment of new PMs as and when required.
- Review Consultations, White & Green Papers and relevant draft legislation as it relates to the practice of Christian Science and Christian Science nursing care in the UKI.
- Coordinate, support and participate in internal and external events and meetings as needed, including:
- Draft and send approved meeting requests, and help coordinate schedules;
- Draft and/or review meeting agendas;
- Assemble reports and materials (including agendas and papers for government meetings, agency meetings, etc.);
- Attend government meetings and take meeting minutes, as needed;
- Assist with all work required in preparing for and attending meetings with workforce regulators and the inspectorates of Christian Science nursing facilities and services.
- Provide technical support before, during, and after meetings.
- Coordinate digital filing efforts of current and past items of interest (e.g. internal and external policy materials such as Consultation Responses, assurances from Government Ministers, key letters/emails from parliamentarians and other Government officials, research materials, spreadsheets, memos, legislative/regulatory comments, etc.) in Google Suite, Salesforce, and M-files systems, to ensure ready access and appropriate historical record.
- Support Government Relations Counsel (UKI) in monitoring legislative/regulatory reviews, including maintaining an active record of draft bills/regulations of interest; organize and monitor tracked legislation in Salesforce.
- Assist in drafting communications to UKI Committees, church members, and interested individuals regarding Government Relations work.
- May be called upon to assist with special projects for the District Manager’s Office and assume responsibility for the development, administration and implementation of specific projects, as required, including annual UKI Committee conferences.
- Other tasks and duties as requested by the Government Relations Counsel (UKI) in support of the Government Relations work.

Regular ContactsThis position has regular contact with the PM Team, the UKI District Manager, International Government Relations Counsel, the District Manager’s Office and the Manager’s Office.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education/ExperienceDegree, and 3+ years of relevant work and management experience; or 5+ years of relevant work and management experience.
Knowledge/SkillsCommittee on Publication work is Christian Science practice; this position requires a metaphysical approach to all work. The individual must also have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, as well as experience working collaboratively and independently. Must be highly efficient and organized, flexible, attentive to detail, able to maintain confidentiality, and able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously and creatively. Strong work ethic and impeccable professionalism are key. Also, must have commitment to and understanding of the purpose and role of the Committee on Publication as established in the Church Manual.
Technology SkillsMust have strong computer skills and a willingness to learn new programs or applications as needed. Systems currently in use include Google Suite, Adobe Suite, Salesforce Lightning, M-files, Zoom.
Work EnvironmentThis position regularly combines work in person, at the District Manager’s Office in London, and off-site, in a home office work environment
Christian Science InformationMembership in The Mother Church and Primary Class instruction required.
