DT Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Stockport Grammar School is looking to appoint a teacher of Design Technology who demonstrates high standards of teaching and learning and is willing to contribute to the Co-curricular provision. They will be required to specialise in Product Design/Resistant Materials but the ability to teach KS3 Food and Nutrition would be an advantage.

Start date: November 2026 or January 2027.

The successful candidate will be committed to and enthusiastic about Design and Technology, be dedicated to academic rigour in the classroom and be able to demonstrate a high level of practical skill and organisation in technology lessons. He or she should be a passionate teacher who is willing and able to convey their enthusiasm to pupils and to undergo further professional development to broaden their skills. He or she will also be able to manage their time effectively and engage in departmental planning in line with whole school objectives.

The successful candidate should offer teaching from first year (Year 7) through to fifth year (Year 11). We offer Eduqas Design and Technology at GCSE and A-Level.

The technology department works on a rotation which means in first and second year all pupils will do the equivalent of one term in Food & Nutrition, Product Design and Textiles. In Third Year pupils can choose Design Technology, Food or Textiles.

In Middle School pupils can opt to study GCSE in Product Design (Eduqas) or Food (OCR).

In the Sixth Form pupils can opt for A Level Product Design.

Our results are excellent and pupils enjoy the curriculum immensely. There is some liaison with the Junior School over curriculum matters and there is scope for further development in this busy and committed department. All members of the department work closely with the pupils to encourage a genuine interest in and an enthusiasm for Design and Technology, as well as taking on extra-curricular responsibilities. The department is assisted by technicians, one full time and two part time. Regular communication with the department and technicians will be essential.

Person Specification

The successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate the following:

• A good honours degree, a PGCE or equivalent and QTS
• Experience of delivering outstanding lessons
• Experience of teaching practical and theoretical aspects of Product Design.
• Experience in teaching Design Technology (Product Design) across all age ranges including GCSE (essential)
• Significant understanding of Teaching & Learning pedagogy
• Experience of developing and implementing Schemes of Work
• Training or qualifications in relevant workshop, machinery, CAD/CAM or health and safety procedures.
• Proven ability to build close professional relationships with other colleagues
• Experience of assessing students' work accurately and providing constructive feedback to support progress.
• Good skills in ICT, and in verbal and written communication
• Proven ability to develop vision, to plan and to innovate
• Commitment to continuing professional development which includes training on new technologies and machinery
• Commitment to Safeguarding
• Commitment to Health and Safety practices and procedures including appropriate training qualifications
• Be a role model for staff and students
• Passionate about Design & Technology, Product Design and creative problem-solving.
• Commitment towards the co-curricular aspect of the school, which includes running a lunchtime club and GCSE lunchtime and an after-school session.
