Can You Inspire, Accompany, and Lead?
Ramsey Choral Society is seeking a new Musical Director to lead our choir from January 2027.
We are a friendly, established mixed-voice (SATB) choral group based in Cambridgeshire, with a strong sense of community and enjoyment at the heart of what we do. We currently have approximately 25 members. While we take pride in producing good-quality music, our rehearsals are also a valued social highlight for our members, offering friendship, a shared purpose, and the joy of singing together. As we are a non-auditioned choir, some of our members do not read music, so we value a director who can support all levels of musical confidence.
We are looking for someone with a wide knowledge of repertoire in a variety of styles and the ability to select a range of music that suits our group. Our previous performances have included a mix of larger choral works, such as Mozart’s Requiem, (in collaboration with another small choir), smaller choral works by Schubert and Haydn, and concerts made up of lighter modern pieces.
We are looking for someone who:
● Leads confidently from the piano and enjoys shaping the choir’s sound while accompanying rehearsals.
● Values the people as much as the music, understanding that choir is both a musical and social activity.
● Is patient, positive, and flexible, working with a range of abilities.
● Keeps rehearsals engaging and enjoyable, helping members feel motivated and supported.
The Essentials:
● Rehearsals: Weekly on Thursday evenings, 7.30pm to 9.30pm (currently term-time only).
● Location: Ramsey, Cambridgeshire.
● Concerts: Typically three main concerts per year, plus occasional additional events.
● Role: Musical direction, rehearsal leadership, and concert preparation.
● Salary: Negotiable (self-employed basis).
