LOCAL ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER (EDUCATION)

We are seeking a knowledgeable and committed individual to join our Local Advisory Board (LAB) as the Education-focused member. This is a paid role (£500 per academic term) in recognition of the time, expertise, and strategic input required. The LAB comprises a Chair and three members, each with a specialist focus, who work closely with the Head and senior leaders to support the school’s long-term success.

As the LAB Member for Education, you will provide oversight and guidance on academic matters, helping to shape the school’s curriculum, monitor pupil outcomes, and uphold high standards in teaching and learning. You will contribute to strategic planning, review performance data, and ensure that educational decisions reflect the needs of pupils, staff, and parents. Your insight will help the school remain forward-thinking, inclusive, and academically ambitious.

We welcome applications from individuals with senior-level experience in education, ideally gained within the independent sector. You will bring sound judgement, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach to working with fellow board members and school leaders.

Prior governance experience is not essential, as full training and induction will be provided to support you in the role. Due to the nature of the position, candidates should reside locally or within a reasonable commuting distance of the school.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the safeguarding culture of one of the South West’s leading independent schools. As the LAB Member for Safeguarding, you will provide strategic oversight of child protection, pupil welfare, and statutory compliance. You Will work closely with the Designated
Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and senior leadership team to ensure that safeguarding is embedded across all aspects of school life, and that policies and practices reflect current legislation and best practice.

We welcome applications from individuals with professional safeguarding experience, such as education, social care, health, or law enforcement – who bring sound judgement, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.

HIGH PERFORMANCE GOALKEEPING COACH (Plymouth College & Plymouth Argyle High Performance Football Programme)

This is an outstanding opportunity to lead the goalkeeper development pathway within the Plymouth College & Plymouth Argyle High Performance Football Programme. This unique role combines the resources, expertise, and progression routes of a professional football club with the academic excellence of one of the South West’s leading independent schools.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering a progressive goalkeeping curriculum for players aged U14–U19, providing professional-standard coaching and holistic support. Working closely with both Plymouth College and Plymouth Argyle staff, the postholder will play a key role in supporting the dual-career aspirations of student-athletes, promoting excellence both on the pitch and in the classroom.

Applicants must hold a UEFA B Licence and a UEFA Goalkeeping B Licence (or be working towards it), alongside valid safeguarding and first aid certification. Experience coaching goalkeepers in academy, college, or high-performance environments is essential, as is a strong understanding of modern coaching methodologies and a commitment to continuous professional development.

This is a part-time position, contracted for 35 weeks per year in line with programme requirements.

The role is based at Home Park, Plymouth, and is remunerated at circa £10,000 per annum.

LIFEGUARD

This is a fantastic opportunity to work as part of the Sports Centre team, to support the school with their activities and to support external groups using the facilities at the school.

The postholder will ensure that pool facilities are cleaned and maintained to a high standard and are in a safe condition for use. They will ensure that all those who use the pool do so safely and accordance to our pool safety rules. Providing excellent customer service at the front desk, the post holder will work during the weekends, with some extra hours available by agreement with the postholder. The relevant Lifeguarding qualifications are essential for this post.

Prospective candidates should be willing to be involved with the wider life of a busy boarding and day school. They must also demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and professional development, including attendance at monthly staff training sessions.

This post is a term-time only position, contracted for 5 hours per week on weekends. Please note that the role extends for three weeks beyond the end of the academic year to support post-term activities.

The position is remunerated in line with Plymouth College Support Staff Pay Scale Band 1A, currently £23,809.50 per annum (Full-Time Equivalent).

EXAMS INVIGILATOR

The College is looking to appoint reliable Exam Invigilators to ensure the fair and proper conduct of examinations in an environment that enables our students to perform at their best.

Successful candidates will work on a casual basis assisting the Exams Officer with the administration and supervision of on-site examinations. Responsibilities include ensuring strict compliance will all regulations set by the relevant Exam Boards. Duties may involve acting as a scribe, delivering announcements to large student groups, and providing one-to-one invigilation in smaller exam settings.

Exam Invigilators need to be calm, organised, reliable, punctual, alert and able to deal with a variety of situations. You must be able to relate well to young people.

Experience is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided and staff may be contacted prior to the exam period to discuss the invigilation schedule in relation to their own availability.

Exam Invigilators are paid a rate of £12.21 per hour (plus statutory holiday pay).
