About the Role
Working together with CDIG employees and reporting to the CDIG Manager, the Development Officer will support the member organisations of CDIG and work to deliver aspects of the Great Place Strategy (GPS).
Key objectives of the role include developing and delivering outcomes of the GPS, joint marketing of CDIG members, facilitation of training and networking opportunities, and the identification of funding and partnership opportunities for the heritage sector in the Outer Hebrides.
The vision is that through the delivery of the GPS, the arts, heritage and tourism sectors of the Outer Hebrides will attract more users, and that these sectors will be strengthened overall through partnership working.
The postholder will work to promote the Gaelic language, culture and heritage of the Outer Hebrides.
Post-holder can be based anywhere in the Outer Hebrides.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary contact for CDIG members.
- Consult with CDIG members and partners, conduct audits, and research to inform training and skills development plans and projects, in consultation with CDIG Manager. Collate and compile data appropriately.
- Contribute to the production of rigorous evaluation and monitoring procedures, as part of these plans, and implement them as appropriate.
- Encourage and facilitate the sharing of ideas, visits and advice to promote communication, collaboration, best practice and recognised standards across the membership of CDIG, the Great Place forum and other agencies.
- Contribute to the administration of Maoin Chomann Dualchas Innse Gall | CDIG Seedcorn Fund, liaising with CDIG Staff and members as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with other CDIG staff to support and inform CDIG projects and the work of CDIG in general.
- Contribute to funding applications and proactively explore funding opportunities alongside other CDIG staff.
- Assist with and contribute to research, data collation and reporting to demonstrate the impact of the heritage sector in the Outer Hebrides.
- Attend CDIG meetings and take minutes when required.
- Promote the aims and objectives of CDIG and its member organisations. As part of this, manage and contribute to social media, website, newsletter and media releases.
- Work with CDIG staff and members to explore digital development and potential income streams.
- Reach out to heritage organisations not currently members of the CDIG committee and promote the benefits of membership and collaborative working.
- Be prepared to work flexibly and outside normal office hours. This will include travel across the Outer Hebrides, including overnight stays.
- Comply with all relevant legislation including the Data Protection Act 2018, Equality Act 2010 and the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974.
Person Specification
Essential
- Knowledge of and passion for the heritage and museums sector of the Outer Hebrides, and its potential to deliver economic and social benefits.
- Knowledge of the Great Place Strategy, ‘Dualchas do Dhaoine’.
- Knowledge and understanding of working for, or being involved with, a community or volunteer-led organisation.
- Knowledge of writing successful funding applications.
- Ability to research systematically and accurately and present findings in a methodical manner.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team, and to work independently.
- Good time management and selfmotivation to meet deadlines, with proven organisational skills.
- Strong verbal & written communication, including facilitation skills and proven ability to tailor to suit audiences.
- Good IT skills including MS Office and social media.
- Educated to Scottish Highers level as a minimum.
- Experience of working or volunteering in a museum or heritage organisation.
- Experience of working with volunteers.
- Driver with clean driving licence & access to a car.
- Self-motivated and committed to personal development and learning new skills.
- Willingness to travel across the Outer Hebrides and to work irregular hours (including evenings, overnight stays, and Saturdays as required.)
Desirable
- Knowledge of the funding environment for heritage, arts and/or tourism organisations in Scotland.
- Awareness of local and national bodies operating within the heritage sector of the Outer Hebrides.
- Knowledge of current heritage/museums best practice, including digital developments.
- Ability to design and implement skills development and training plans for community groups.
- Skilled multitasker.
- Competence in website administration.
- Able to read, write and speak Gaelic to a good standard.
- A degree in heritage or business-related subjects.
- Experience in design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of plans and projects.
- Experience of working with young people.
- Experience of working and/or liaising with organisations /agencies / stakeholders and training providers.
- An understanding of working in rural island communities.
