As a National Outdoor Centre, Plas y Brenin develops the people that develop the outdoor sector – from instructors to centre managers to expedition leaders to NGB officers to policymakers. This includes developing inspiring coaches, instructors and leaders in adventure sports, be they volunteers or working professionally in the sector, to better support people, from all backgrounds to get active in the outdoors.
By hosting conferences, symposiums and meetings, we bring together practitioners from across the UK (and beyond) to share learning, transfer good practice and raise standards. With a world-class reputation, this inspirational venue is also committed to helping individuals nurture their skills and confidence for independent adventures.

The Role We’re looking for an experienced and inspiring leader to join us as Head of Paddlesport. You’ll lead and develop our paddlesport programme, ensuring it is safe, high-quality, and innovative. You’ll manage and motivate a high-performing instructional team, set culture, and foster a supportive learning environment.
You’ll also have departmental oversight including budget, people management, performance, and collaborating across the organisation to deliver impact and innovation.
You’ll Bring
- BCAB Coach and BCAB Tutor status (essential)
- Extensive paddlesport coaching experience, including expeditions

- Proven director-level or senior leadership experience managing high-performing teams
- High-level outdoor activity qualifications (BMG, WMCI, or BCAB Coach Awards) and Course Director status with relevant NGBs

The Role We’re seeking an experienced senior leader to join us as Interim Director of Outdoor Training and Education. You’ll maintain operational continuity and stability across Plas y Brenin’s instructional programmes, ensuring safety, quality, and participant experience while a permanent appointment is made.
You’ll lead Heads of Department, oversee programme delivery, manage departmental operations, and support the Senior Leadership Team. You’ll also deputise for urgent CEO decisions, provide operational guidance, and act as the point of contact for critical incidents.
You’ll Bring
- Proven director-level or senior leadership experience with responsibility for high-performing teams
- High-level outdoor qualifications in mountaineering or paddlesport (BMG, WMCI, IML, High-Level BCAB Coach)
- Course Director status with relevant National Governing Bodies
- Experience managing budgets, resources, and financial performance

The Role
We’re looking for a highly qualified and experienced paddlesport practitioner to join us as Paddlesport Senior Instructor. You’ll direct and deliver a wide range of NGB and skills courses, deputising for the Head of Paddlesport, and leading by example across our paddlesport programme.
You’ll provide supervisory leadership during programme delivery, support colleagues, and contribute to wider programmes including Embark expeditions and outreach projects. Safety, quality, and innovation will be central to your role, ensuring our instructors and participants experience the highest standards.
You’ll Bring
- BCAB (or equivalent) Coach in multiple disciplines, with BCAB Tutor status desirable
- First Aid and Safeguarding qualification
- Significant experience as a paddlesport instructor, including expeditions
- Safety-critical experience and strong knowledge of paddlesport standards
- Supervisory or team leader experience in outdoor education
- Operational experience including planning, logistics, and staff deployment
- DVLA minimum driving licence requirements, D1+E for trailers if required

The Role
We’re seeking an experienced and highly qualified practitioner to join us as Senior Instructor for our Multi Activity Programme. You’ll deliver a wide range of residential, outdoor, and corporate team-building programmes for adults and young people.
While no formal people management is required, you’ll provide supervisory leadership during programme delivery, support colleagues, and deputise for the Head of Multi Activity Programme as needed. You’ll also contribute to wider programmes, including Embark expeditions and outreach activities.
Be the point of contact for Fast Track candidates, working in collaboration with the Director of Outdoor Training and Education and Director of Sales and Marketing to attract participants to the Fast Track programme. Supervise Fast Track candidates for the duration of the programme.
You’ll Bring
- MCI or high-level BCAB (or equivalent paddlesport) qualification
- MTB Level 3 qualification
- Safeguarding Level 3 (or willingness to work towards)
- Experience delivering residential and outdoor programmes for children, young people, and adults
