- Job Type: Full Time
- Profession: Nursing
- Location: Birmingham
- Salary: Depending on experience
We are St Andrew's. We are a mental health Charity and our purpose is to inspire hope for those living with complex mental health needs.
We are looking to a future with less stigma, more community support, more research and education, and we aim to be at the forefront of inspiring real change. We want to ensure we can all live in a society where everyone with complex mental health needs is heard, valued and has hope for their future.
A bit about you and the role
You will be a Registered Nurse with significant post-registration experience working with patients with alcohol and substance misuse dependency, either in an addiction, mental health or an acute role. You will have an in-depth knowledge of pharmacological treatments for alcohol and substance misuse and excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act.
You will work as a member of the clinical team across the Birmingham division and will offer assessment, consultation and short-term intervention for patients with problems around substance misuse, including those with co–occurring mental health and long-term physical health conditions. You will work in close collaboration with patients, families, carers and other professionals and services involved the person’s care, including ward-based MDT, occupational therapy, psychological, primary care, social work team, substance misuse services, the police and other criminal justice agencies.
You will use an integrated motivational interviewing approach that is person-centred and holistic and considers the needs of others in the patient’s social system.
You will be required to conduct a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment that considers the relationship between the person’s mental and physical health, their social situation and their harmful use of drugs and alcohol in formulating person-centred and needs-based care plans.
You will be required to assess clinical risk and to devise risk management plans that competently address identified areas of risk and, in consultation with senior colleagues, deliver effective safeguarding for the individual and others around them.
You will participate in clinical reviews of frequently attending patients, working with others to devise care management plans aimed at supporting patients to reduce their level of unscheduled hospital attendances and calls to emergency services.
You will work closely with the police and community mental health teams as part of the St Andrew's Birmingham team to support individuals with complex mental health and substance misuse needs who have also had contact with the criminal justice system.
You will take an active role in promoting and developing the service and engaging in quality initiatives to enhance care delivery, for St Andrew's as part of the Reach Out collaborative.
