Job Description: Baby Bank Assistant
Hours: 18 hr/week
Salary: NJC level 5-6 £25,583 - £25,989 pro rata based on Full-time equivalent of 36/wk
Contract: Fixed-term for 12 months - further continuation subject to funding
Reporting to: Baby Bank and Retail Manager
Based at: Home-Start HOST’s Baby Bank (Audenshaw)
Purposes of the role
To support the operation of our busy Baby Bank service - the Baby Bank provides a vital service to the
community we work in. Families experiencing financial hardship are referred into the service; the baby
bank will then provide them with essential items to support their family. Examples include nappies,
clothes, toys, cots and prams. The assistant is responsible for supporting the effective day-to-day
operation of the service, including receiving and processing donations of stock, distributing requested
items and engaging in fundraising activity.
Main responsibilities
• Monitor the flow of stock into and out of the baby bank premises, ensuring quality and safety
standards are maintained.
• Manage the process for receiving donations; ensuring donors are welcomed at the premises or
arrangements are made to collect goods from them.
• Organize donations within the baby bank premises, ensuring that all stock is stored neatly and
safely.
• Liaise with referrers when item requested are ready for collection
• Move stock in between the baby bank and charity shop to ensure appropriate donations are
available for each service.
• Support and manage volunteers on a day-to day basis in ways that encourage their engagement.
• Ensure a clear quality checking process is maintained and that all equipment meets safety
standards.
• Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety and security at the baby bank premises are adhered to by
volunteers. This includes, but is not limited to; ensuring risk assessments are adhered to and that
hygiene control measures, and manual handling processes.
• Maintain records in accordance with Home-Start HOST’s GDPR data protection processes.
• Ensure that waste is disposed of safely, appropriately and in the most environmentally friendly way
possible.
• Monitor stock and report to Baby Bank Manager, when levels are low and when items that cannot
be donated need to be purchased.
• Create an online selling platform for surplus or unsuitable stock, in order to generate income to
purchase other essential items.
• Proactively engage and support the Baby Bank Manager in marketing and fundraising activities that
contribute to the sustainability of the baby bank service.
• Adhere to the Home-Start HOST’s Safeguarding policy and ensure knowledge and understanding of
safeguarding amongst the team.
• Undertake any other duties that may be required to discharge the role and support the organisation.
