RVC Equine is offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, qualified and experienced Equine Veterinary Nurse to join and lead our team of nurses and technicians at the Royal Veterinary College, the world’s number one veterinary school.

RVC Equine is an internationally renowned accredited Equine Hospital and Ambulatory Equine Practice located at the Hawkshead Campus of the RVC. Our Equine Hospital is fully equipped with state of the art surgical, diagnostic, and critical care facilities, whilst our highly skilled team of practice veterinarians operate out of bespoke veterinary vehicles with high spec portable equipment.

The Equine Head Nurse role is a varied and demanding leadership position for a dedicated hard-working individual delivering exemplary nursing care and ensuring that the team supports a positive learning experience for all VN trainees and under- and postgraduate students in the Equine Hospital. Reporting to the Clinical Operations Manager, the Head Nurse is responsible for managing a team of RVNs, nursing apprentices and Equine Technicians. Working alongside our internationally renowned specialist teams in Equine medicine, surgery, and diagnostics, you will support the Equine Hospital and Practice with nursing activity, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and University procedural requirements. You will contribute to the wider departmental mission, supporting the Clinical Services teaching and research aims.

With a focus on delivering the highest standards of patient care, the Head Nurse will play a key role in identifying areas for continuous optimisation of services, implementing and reviewing policies and procedures to support clinical compliance and being an active participant in RVC Equine’s strategic goals for clinical delivery and case load growth.

The successful candidate needs to have a positive can-do attitude, management or team leadership skills and extensive experience in working in a busy Equine Hospital. The ability to work independently and as part of a bigger team is also required. You will be a highly skilled organiser with exceptional time management, the ability to effectively delegate and to coordinate your own and others’ workload.  You will be required to work on a shift pattern that includes out of hours, Bank Holidays and weekends for which an additional supplement is paid.

We offer a substantial reward package including a highly competitive pension scheme. Additional benefits include free membership to the Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga, and Pilates classes included), a generous annual leave allowance, access to free in-house CPD, funded external CPD, childcare vouchers and cycle to work scheme.
