Dundee Museum of Transport
Full-time
25th November 2025

Dundee enjoyed nearly 80 years of tramway history, with the last tram running on 20 October 1956.  As the 70th anniversary approaches in 2026, Dundee Museum of Transport is planning an exhibition to celebrate this era, capturing the memories of those who worked and travelled on the trams and exploring their lasting impact on the city’s story.  Initially going on display for summer 2026 in the museum’s current location, the new exhibition will ultimately become part of a new permanent exhibition when the museum moves to the newly restored Maryfield Tram Depot in early 2027.

We are seeking an interpretation specialist to join us to devise the interpretation strategy, create text, and develop or advise on non-text interpretation. We expect your involvement to start in December 2025, with the content finalised in March 2026. The exhibition will open in June 2026.

We are a small team, and this our first time working on a project like this. We hope that working with you will help us develop our knowledge and leave a legacy for future projects.

Please send a simple expression of interest, letting us know your experience and what you can bring to the project. This can be in the form of links to your website/examples of your work; we do not expect you to spend lots of time on a detailed proposal. We have not worked with an interpretation consultant before, so it will be helpful if you can briefly specify what outputs you feel are realistic within the stated budget and timescale.

Please send expressions of interest to Hannah, Exhibition Officer, on hcrookes@dmoft.co.uk.  If you have any questions or would like a chat, please do not hesitate to contact the same email address.
