Substance Misuse Worker
Job Purpose
To work alongside individuals who use Turning Tides’ services and/or homeless services by adopting a holistic and client led approach to help people recognise their strengths and achieve their ambitions. To promote self-advocacy and advocate on behalf of people (as appropriate) to ensure people’s dignity and rights are upheld and they are able to access and maintain the support they need.
To provide support within busy hub drop-in sessions and lead on CGL clinic at Worthing St Clare’s Hub.
To share good practice and advise colleagues on dual diagnosis and the barriers people face. To work in a multi-agency approach both internal and external to enable effective joined up working between relevant support agencies. Specifically, around substance misuse and impacts on wellbeing, as additional support to services.
To work collaboratively with Services from the statutory and voluntary sector, providing drop-ins and joint support/assessments. The Substance Misuse Worker will be required to case co-ordinate a caseload of CGL clients and facilitate key work & group work.
This role has been funded through our partnership with Change Grow Live (CGL) as part of an exciting partnership where Turning-Tides and CGL recognise that homelessness and addiction are often symbiotic of each other and that specialised skills that Turning Tides have in engaging effectively with this hard to reach complex client group, can empower clients to engage more effectively with services such as CGL.
About You
- Proven work experience in providing substance misuse interventions and/or mental health support to people.
- Proven work experience in supporting vulnerable people experiencing multiple exclusions/difficulties.
- Experience of alcohol, drugs and issues around addiction an relapse management, to include detox/rehab and aftercare processes.
- Understand and proven knowledge of mental health, personality disorders and dual diagnosis.
- Understanding of substitute prescribing and willingness to undertake training.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits, housing and homelessness law and policy.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Confidentiality.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a partnership along with the ability to advocate effectively at all levels.
