Job Role
To lead a high quality and vibrant RAF Section within the School’s successful CCF Contingent. The individual will be a key leader within the RAF as a CFAV and will be responsible for the planning and delivery of high-quality training to the cadets within the section.
Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide interesting and varied training which provides the core cadet experience.
- Develop a training programme for the year’s weekly routine training that offers progressive opportunities for cadet development. Oversee the delivery of this training and where possible provides feedback to instructors in order to continuously improve the quality of experience the cadets receive.
- Have a key input into reviewing training and prepare instructors for the following week. Produce written orders detailing arrangements.
- Be responsible for the progress and development of cadets within the section, including through promotions and against the established syllabi.
- Check that accurate records of cadet attendance and qualifications are maintained by the SSI and that these are kept up to date on WESTMINSTER.
- Encourage the involvement of cadets and CFAVs in external opportunities (courses, competitions, etc) and communicate to the SSI to enable this.
- Take responsibility for the training of the NCO Cadre to ensure the next generation of cadet instructors are able to discharge their future duties effectively.
- Be the point of contact with the RAF Cadet Training Team and liaise with them regarding training support.
- Be the Contingent lead for the section’s Annual Camp excursions.
- Planning of flying days, Field days and assisting with AGI Day.
- Liaise with the SSI to ensure training area bids, transport requests and other logistical support is in place for all planned training, allowing sufficient lead time.
- Ensure that the Safe System of Training is in place for all planned training.
- Contribute to the continued professional development of the CFAV RAF section team, including ensuring the mandatory training is in place.
- Working with the Contingent Commander to contribute to the overall strategy and vision of the Contingent.
- Undertake all duties in accordance with the College’s safeguarding protocols and procedures.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A comprehensive knowledge in the CCF/RAF.
- A commitment to attend relevant training courses to enhance skillset.
- Evidence of a detailed understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Display high computer competency and keyboard accuracy.
- Demonstrate strong organisational skills and ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Show empathy with cadets, young people and adults alike.
- Proven ability to work flexibly as part of a specialist team, but also to work on own initiative.
- Demonstrate an ability to problem solve and leadership skills.
- Physically fit and comfortable working at height.
- Display a professional attitude and represent the values of the school.
Desirable
- Experience of working in an academic environment.
- First Aid qualifications.
- NRA range conducting officer.
- Skill at Arms Instructor.
- Completed LONDIST courses.
- Experience of working with young people aged 11-18.
Terms and Conditions
Hours: Term time 4.00pm – 5.30pm Wednesday term time including Inset days. Some flexibility of hours will be required in order to meet the needs of the department.
Salary: Total £1,089 per annum based on the above working hours paid monthly in arrears on 25th of the month. In addition, a Volunteer Allowance (VA) may be available, subject to Service policies. The availability of funding is subject to approval by the Contingent Commander.
Holidays: Statutory holiday entitlement to be taken during College’s holiday published dates and entitlement has been calculated and included in the salary above.
Pension: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4% in compliance with current legislation.
