We are an independent local charity based in Bosham, Chichester, offering a wide range of services to support our patients, and their loved ones, who are living with a life limiting or terminal illness.
The work we do makes a real difference to the lives of local people and we support over 330 patients at any one time between our In Patient Unit and Community teams.
Being a Counsellor at St Wilfrid’s
Permanent / Part-time / 15 hours per week
We are looking for a Counsellor to join our Family Services Team on a part-time basis, working 15 hours per week.
The post holder will work as an active member of the Family Services Team, providing counselling to clients and patients both pre and post bereavement, whilst also supporting the Lead Counsellor in their priorities, to meet the continual high standards of care within the department.
Key requirements of the role include:
- To provide therapeutic counselling and group support to hospice clients, patients and their loved ones, who are experiencing the emotional and spiritual impact of life-limiting illness, death and bereavement.
- To act as a role model and provide exceptional Counselling skill and expertise
- To manage an active caseload of clients dealing with complex psychological emotional issues as a consequence of a life limiting diagnosis or bereavement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Counselling or equivalent, such as Level 5 Diploma in Counselling recognised by BACP/UKCP or relevant recognised professional/clinical qualifications relating to bereavement and psychological and emotional care
- Registered member of BACP or other relevant/recognised body
- Minimum of 300 supervised hours post qualification
- Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Experience of facilitating small groups

Skills and Abilities
- Right to Work in the UK
- Experience of working with those affected by life limiting/terminal illnesses and experiencing loss, whether clients/patients directly, their loved ones, providing counselling input.
- Good IT skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience of working within a voluntary organisation
- Experience working with couples and families
- Ability to organise work working both autonomously and part of a team.
- Experience of having worked as part of a multidisciplinary team.
