Now, we’re taking an important step forward by launching our brand-new Children and Young People service across Lancashire — and we’re looking for someone special to help bring it to life.

As our new Children & Young People Service Lead, you won’t simply be stepping into an established service. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape it from the very beginning.

You’ll work directly with children and young people under 18 and their families, helping them navigate the challenges of sight loss, build confidence, develop practical life skills and prepare for adulthood.

And no two days will look quite the same.

One day, you could be supporting a family to find the right information and services. The next, you might be developing an independence workshop, planning an unforgettable activity for young people, working with a school or healthcare professional, or building a new partnership that helps us reach a family who needs our support.

It’s an opportunity to help create one.

You’ll work alongside our Community Services Manager and the wider Galloways team to develop opportunities that respond to what children, young people and families really need.

You’ll help build relationships across health, education, social care and the voluntary sector, develop referral pathways into Galloways and make sure more children and young people with a visual impairment know that support is here when they need it.

That means helping young people build confidence, make friendships, develop independence, discover new possibilities and feel part of a community.

And you’ll be at the heart of making that happen.

Could this be you?

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and young people and knows how to build trust with families, carers and professionals.

You’ll bring experience of working directly with children and young people and people with disabilities, along with experience of creating safe, meaningful activities and working collaboratively with families and professionals.

You’ll be organised, approachable and self-motivated, with strong communication skills and the confidence to work independently while being part of a supportive wider team.

Above all, we’re looking for someone with energy, empathy and a genuine passion for helping children and young people with sight loss thrive.

Experience within the visual impairment field would be fantastic, but it is listed as desirable rather than essential.

Salary: £29,417 FTE (£17,889 actual), with annual pay progression to £35,125 FTE
Hours: 22.5 hours per week
Location: Howick House, Penwortham, with the ability to work across Lancashire
