Healthcare Support Worker on Macmillan Renton Unit.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a dedicated team providing cancer care at Hereford County Hospital. As a Healthcare Support Worker in the Macmillan Renton Cancer Unit you will assist clinical teams to provide care and support patients through their cancer journeys.
You will be trained in supporting with breast care procedures, chaperone, performing phlebotomy as an essential skill and any other skills that are required of you as a supporting HCA in MRU.
Previous healthcare experience is essential.
Main duties of the job
To support the activities of the Macmillan Renton Unit (MRU) in the provision of cancer care, e.g. outpatient breast clinic.
To work under the direct/indirect supervision of and in support of the Consultant, registered nurse and or the registered Allied Health Professional carrying out delegated nursing and non-nursing duties to promote patient centred care.
To ensure that all duties required to assist the clinician performing the clinic are completed in a timely manner to ensure the best patients experience possible. To be mindful at all times of the impact on patients of own actions.

Essential criteria
- Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent experience to vocational qualification level 3.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Understands and complies with HCSW mandatory induction standards and code of conduct.
- Awareness, understanding and compliance of policies and practices e.g. Escort Policy, Prevention and control of infection and Health and Safety. The post holder is therefore able to work within the scope of their practice under direct and indirect supervision by the registered nurse (training will be provided).
- Can demonstrate knowledge of equipment used within the department to support the registered nurse and ensure that they are compatible and in good working order. Will escalate any concerns to a registered nurse.
- Completion and maintenance of statutory & mandatory learning activities.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Can demonstrate a range of core skills to competently undertake patient care and other tasks and activities.
- Effective written and verbal communication, literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
