Community Link Worker – Counselling Specialist
Employer: North East Counselling Services CIC
Location: Home working/ GP Practices within Gateshead Central South Primary Care Network
Hours: 28 hours per week (or 2 x 14 hours per week)
Salary: £30,303.00 pro rata for 14-hour posts
Contract: Fixed term until 31st March 2026 (extension subject to funding)

About the Role
We’re excited to be recruiting Community Link Workers – Counselling Specialists to support patients across Gateshead Central South Primary Care Network (PCN).
You’ll work from home and within GP practices, providing 1:1 counselling and triage for patients with mild to moderate mental health needs. This role combines counselling with community connection — helping patients access the right support and build resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide counselling support to adults and/or young people (aged 4–18).
- Assess, triage, and refer patients appropriately.
- Deliver counselling face-to-face, online, or by phone.
- Build strong, empathetic relationships with patients.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, practice teams, and community partners.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to service evaluation.
- Follow North East Counselling Services’ policies on safeguarding, confidentiality, and equality.
- Attend supervision and ongoing professional development.
About You
You’re a qualified counsellor who is passionate about improving mental health in your community. You’re empathic, adaptable, and able to work independently while being part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team.
You’ll bring:
- A recognised Counselling Diploma or Degree (minimum Level 5)
- Experience of delivering counselling in-person and remotely
- Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality
- Strong communication and record-keeping skills
- Flexibility to work across surgeries and from home
- A current enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
