The Assistant SENCo will support the SENCo to be responsible for the day-to-day operation of SEND provision and provision for students with additional educational needs. The Assistant SENCO will also need to ensure that the school upholds its duties according to the Code of Practice and they will coordinate, monitor and develop provision for all pupils with an EHCP according to national and local guidelines, the SEND policy, the local SEND offer and school procedures. The Assistant SENCO will be an excellent communicator, who can maintain very effective communication systems with teaching and support staff and work together to raise the standards of attainment and achievement across the whole area and to monitor and support student’s progress. To promote the education and development of children with SEMH and SEN in other primary settings, through modelling best practice and sharing information with the staff working in those settings. General responsibilities • To be familiar with the school curriculum, the age- related expectations of pupils, the main teaching and learning methods and the assessment frameworks in the subjects and age ranges in which you are involved. • To be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop. • To actively commit to Marchant-Holliday School’s vision, values and ethos. • To follow and promote the school's policies. • To use a range of behaviour management strategies, in line with school’s policy and procedures, to contribute to a purposeful learning environment and to encourage pupils to interact and work cooperatively with others. • To demonstrate and promote the positive values, attitudes and behaviour you expect from the pupils you Specific Responsibilities Assistant SENCo work with. • To use IT systems and technology to support intervention and learning and as required to carry out the duties of the post in the most efficient and effective manner. • To support in the management of all aspects of inclusion and intervention for students with additional educational needs in school. • To provide strategic leadership for the development and management of SEND provision throughout the school. • To identify areas for improvement linked to the school improvement plan and national and local initiatives. • To act as a role model of good practice for other teachers, modelling effective strategies for them • To support the provision of SEN, including the allocation of support time and the writing of SEN paperwork. • To organise, write and facilitate Annual Reviews • To liaise with relevant outside agencies (SALT, EP, OT, Clinical Psychiatrists) to ensure that individual pupil SEN are met effectively and that the requirements of EHCPs are met fully. • Ensure accurate and detailed records are kept and stored of meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies for GDPR compliance. • Ensure that staff are kept informed of pupils’ SEN and advise on areas to develop. • Work with the SENCO and other staff to ensure that all Pupil Paperwork- including PEPS, PDPS, Boxalls, T&Ls and IPOPs- and plans are used to set subject specific targets and match work well to pupils’ needs. • Using data effectively to identify pupils who are seriously underachieving and where necessary create and implement effective plans of action to support those pupils. • To provide guidance to staff on the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of different pupils. • To work with the SENCO to promote an inclusive curriculum. • To liaise with and inform parents/carers about the specifics of the SEN provision for their child under the direction of the SENCO. • To monitor the progress of students with SEMH and advise the SENCO. • To support meetings of SEN staff, communicate information to staff and co-ordinate resulting action. • To offer advice and support to teaching staff in providing a quality first teaching approach, under the direction of the SENCO. • To support the process of access arrangements in liaison with the Assistant Headteacher. • To deputise for the SENCO in matters relating to SEN. • Carry out small group interventions, for example; social use of language, SP, EAL and language programmes etc. • Maintain and be aware at all times of the SEN Register and profile sheets. Specific Responsibilities Outreach Practitioner • Update pupil records as appropriate and assist the SENCO with more complex paperwork as when necessary. • Attend meetings as directed by the SENCO. • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security and confidentiality reporting all concerns to an appropriate person to ensure pupils’ wellbeing. • Contribute to the overall work/aims of MHS and appreciate and support the role of colleagues and other professionals to enable the School to fulfil its • development plans. • To collate SEND statistical returns as requested and analyse progress and attainment. • Monitor and evaluate pupil responses to learning activities through a range of assessment and monitoring strategies against predetermined learning objectives, providing feedback and reports to teachers in order to provide evidence of the range and level of progress and attainment. • To plan visits according to the protocol adopted by the Outreach model. • To work with staff, from other settings to support the development of strategies and provision to improve attendance, progress and outcomes for pupils referred with difficulties SEMH and/or SLCN. • To keep a record of visits that are made in the course of his or her work in such a way that the structure and purpose of those visits are outlined and the responses and progress of the children are noted. • To contribute to the development and delivery of training programmes to ‘cascade’ our ethos and knowledge and grow our reach. • To develop and administer monitoring and evaluation processes to assess the impact of our Outreach work, including consulting with community partners to develop effective and collaborative processes. • To ensure clear and consistent recording of information and data enabling the effective and timely submission of reports to SLT. • To build contacts and develop relationships across the community sector for partnership working and to maintain relationships with existing schools. • To maintain and build partnerships with other relevant stakeholders. • To increase our contacts through existing networks • To identify opportunities and networks for development of new school partnerships for future collaboration • To share ideas and best practise of how local schools can work together to meet their various aims and empower their staff. • To keep an eye out for opportunities to increase the reach of our programmes and the distribution of MHS expertise.
