WESTMINSTER SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP AND BURSARY FUND
Westminster School
Full-time
19th January 2026

Westminster Under School is a friendly and welcoming place to work, with a real sense of community. Staff members quickly become part of the rhythm of life, both inside and outside the classroom. Social events are regular and varied, with plenty of opportunities to socialise outside working hours. All are encouraged to embrace the School’s day-to-day activities, whether that be attending a concert or a sports fixture.

It is a particularly exciting and significant time to be joining Westminster. As part of Westminster Under School and Westminster School’s move to become fully co-educational, girls will be joining the Under School for the first time in 2026, at the 7+ and 11+ entry points, and a brand new pre-prep will open for boys and girls at the 4+ entry point. In 2028, girls will be joining at 13+ at Westminster School.

Highlights of the School’s Maths Department include entry to national competitions such as the UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge, the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge for pupils in Years 7 and 8 (and younger rising stars) and the Primary Maths Challenge for pupils in Years 5 and 6. External speakers regularly come to the School to speak to pupils and our “Maths Hat” tends to have dozens, if not hundreds, of entrants each week. Pupils also enjoy expanding their knowledge outside the formal curriculum – we celebrate Pi Day and there is a code-breaking course for pupils in Year 8 which includes an annual trip to Bletchley Park.

The role
Westminster Under School is looking for a bright, caring and enthusiastic individual to cover maths teaching for the summer term 2026. The successful candidate will teach Years 5 to 8, planning and evaluating lessons and activities as required. They will assist with other areas aside from formal lessons, such as facilitating Maths Problem of the Week, and helping with support clinics and the running of external competitions. The successful applicant will be expected to cover classes for absent colleagues as directed by the Senior Management Team, and attend staff meetings, parents’ evenings and other meetings and school events, outside normal hours.

The ideal candidate will hold a degree or equivalent qualification, a Maths degree or similar is desirable, and Qualified Teacher Status. They will ideally have taught up to Common Entrance level, and will possess a genuine passion for their subject and commitment to pupil wellbeing and development. The Maths Teacher will be an excellent communicator who has the ability to motivate and support pupils with their studies. Organisational, administration and IT skills are integral to the role, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. The postholder will have a willingness to contribute beyond their teaching of Maths, acting as a form tutor to a group of pupils.

This is a full-time, temporary role. The Maths Teacher will cover the post for one term from April to July 2026.
