We are currently recruiting a Global Investigations Director to join our Ethics & Compliance team.

This is a remote, full-time, open-ended position, open to candidates based in Relief International countries of operation, with a preference for candidates based in the UK.

The salary for this position is circa. £65k per year.

About the Opportunity

The Global Investigations Director will ensure that ethics and compliance allegations and incidents that arise in our organization are handled with professionalism and integrity.

Your role will be to lead, guide and coordinate investigation activity across RI’s operations. This will be a highly-visible role that may interface with regional/country leadership teams, local incident management teams, global support office functions (such as legal, finance, security and human resources), major donors, and law enforcement
officials. 

Your Responsibilities

This role includes the following responsibilities.

  • Lead the assignment, prioritization and monitoring of investigative work, coordinating internal and external technical case leads.
  • Directly undertake and lead investigations when high levels of objectivity, resources, or expertise are needed.
  • Work with country teams to formulate investigation plans and present investigation findings in clear and accurate reports.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of recommendations for corrective actions and improvements to RI’s internal controls and practices.
  • Ensure matters are promptly and properly disclosed and communicated to external donors and statutory authorities as required.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the accuracy and timeliness of data housed in RI’s Incident Management System.
  • Mentor and/or manage those involved in investigative activities.
  • Lead the development or revising of investigative tools and templates based on best practices.
  • Develop and deliver investigation and incident management training to global and country teams.
  • Conduct analyses to determine trends and learnings from investigative activity and coordinate with the Ethics & Compliance team to socialize this learning within Relief International.
  • Contribute to RI’s “speak up” culture including through leading and supporting on training programs, communications, role modelling, and thought leadership.

About You

You will bring the following experience and skills.

  • Progressive experience in conducting and overseeing investigations of alleged misconduct in an international environment, including in high risk and conflict settings.
  • Undergraduate degree in law, business, criminal justice or a related discipline is required. A juris doctor or postgraduate qualification is preferred. Career experience will be considered in place of an advanced educational degree.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, judgment and ability to communicate in all forms (written, verbal, presenting, interviewing etc).
  • Experience in the international humanitarian or development sectors, government-funded grants, or the inspector general function within a government agency.
  • Experience scrutinizing financial, electronic and forensic evidence.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Demonstrated fluency with a variety of topical matters that may be the subject of investigations, including:
  • Fraud, corruption, procurement integrity, trade sanctions;
  • Safeguarding, human trafficking, PSEA, harassment/discrimination;
  • Whistleblower protection.
  • License to practice law in a commonwealth
    jurisdiction, or professional designations such as CFE, CPA or CCEP
    is desirable but not required.
  • Experience working with incident management databases would be a bonus.Knowledge of French, Arabic, or another language relevant to RI’s countries of operations is a plus.
