JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Teacher of Science Department: Science Hours of Work: Full-time Responsible To: Head of Physics Responsible For: N/A Summary of Role: We are seeking an inspiring KS3–KS4 Science Teacher to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be able to teach across the sciences at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the flexibility to contribute to their area of specialism. A passion for practical work, strong subject knowledge, and a commitment to helping students of all abilities achieve their best are essential. Science is a thriving and successful faculty at Woldingham, with excellent facilities housed in a purpose-built block that was fully refurbished in 2016. The department comprises highly committed subject specialists in Biology, Chemistry and Physics who work closely together to deliver an engaging and rigorous curriculum. We place a strong emphasis on practical skills, curiosity-driven learning and developing students’ independence as young scientists. There is a genuine culture of collaboration, with colleagues regularly sharing resources and ideas to enrich teaching and learning. The department benefits from the expertise of a team of enthusiastic and experienced technicians who provide outstanding support for practical work. Science is a popular choice at GCSE and many of our students continue to study STEM subjects at A level and beyond, with a significant number progressing to science-related degrees. In Years 7 and 8, students follow a bespoke KS3 science course based on Pearson Exploring Science. From Year 9, the sciences are taught as separate subjects following the Edexcel IGCSE specifications for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At the start of Year 10, students are guided either towards the three separate sciences or the Double Award Science route according to their aptitude and aspirations. Specific Responsibilities: • To teach Science at KS3 and KS4 as allocated by the Head of Department. • To plan and prepare lessons thoroughly in line with departmental and school policies. • To prepare students for public examinations at IGCSE level, supporting both Separate Science and Double Award routes. • To manage classroom behaviour effectively and promote a positive, focused working atmosphere in line with school policy. • To set, mark and assess work, record assessments and write reports in accordance with departmental and school schedules. • To contribute actively to departmental initiatives and wider enrichment activities, taking on responsibilities reasonably allocated by the Head of Department.
