We are now looking for a Volunteer Co-ordinator (20 hours per week) to develop, recruit, and support our volunteer team. You will play a key role in growing and diversifying our volunteer base, ensuring volunteers feel valued, supported, and inspired to contribute. The role will involve:

  • Recruiting and retaining volunteers across the charity, from reception and buddy roles to fundraising and trustees.
  • Enhancing the volunteer experience through recognition, support, and opportunities for skill development.
  • Promoting volunteering opportunities in the community, attending fairs, and building partnerships with local groups and businesses.
  • Supporting managers with good practice in volunteer management.

Person Specification

We’re looking for someone who can bring people together, support others with empathy, and confidently promote volunteering in the community.

Essential:

  • Experience of recruiting, supporting, and coordinating volunteers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to empathise with and support volunteers.
  • Confident use of Microsoft Office and social media.
  • Knowledge of best practice in volunteer management, safeguarding, and health & safety.
  • Able to work flexibly, including evenings/weekends when required.
  • Able to travel across South West Herts (car owner, insured for business use, clean licence).

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within social care or the voluntary sector.
  • Supporting people with learning disabilities and/or carers.
  • Experience delivering training, creating supported volunteering opportunities, and developing policies and procedures.
  • Ability to produce engaging promotional materials and manage budgets.

Personal attributes:

You’ll be approachable, creative, resilient, and a natural motivator, be able to build positive relationships at all levels, work on your own initiative, and inspire others to volunteer.

This is a rewarding role where you’ll help shape the volunteer journey at Watford Mencap and make a real difference in your community.
