About this Role

Do you have the vision to lead a transformation and champion a more inclusive future for the construction sector? As the Head of EDI at CITB, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping and executing our strategy, driving cultural change, and ensuring that diversity is at the heart of everything we do.
This is a senior leadership role that requires a dynamic, forward-thinking individual to help us foster an inclusive and innovative culture. You’ll lead on EDI matters across the CITB, guiding us toward our goal of creating an environment where everyone, regardless of background, feels welcomed, valued, and empowered. Reporting to the Legal, Governance & Compliance Executive Director, you’ll be a visible and influential leader, both within the organisation and across the wider construction industry.
What You’ll Be Doing1. Strategy Development & Implementation
• Shape the Future: Lead the development and implementation of an ambitious EDI strategy, ensuring it aligns with the CITB’s overall goals and values.
• Industry Leadership: Build consensus with strategic partners across the construction sector, fostering collaboration to drive the EDI agenda forward.
• Attracting Diverse Talent: Work closely with industry employers to promote the attraction, recruitment, and retention of diverse talent, cultivating inclusive work environments.
• Influence Education: Collaborate with the education sector and external stakeholders to inspire diverse students to pursue careers in construction.
• Internal EDI Culture: Partner with HR to create and nurture an internal culture that attracts, engages, and retains a diverse and inclusive workforce.
2. Expert Guidance & Support
• Drive Best Practice: Provide expert advice, guidance, and challenge to senior leaders on EDI issues, keeping them informed on the latest trends, legislation, and best practices.
• EDI Training: Develop and deliver impactful training programs that equip colleagues at all levels with the knowledge and skills to foster inclusive cultures.
• Policy Review & Enhancement: Continuously evaluate and promote EDI policies to ensure they remain relevant and impactful, aligning with current best practices and legislative requirements.
3. Data-Driven Insights
• Measure Impact: Build a robust, evidence-based approach to EDI metrics, ensuring these insights are integrated into the governance structure.
• Reporting: Lead the analysis of workforce data, including Gender Pay Gap Reporting (GPGR) and Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), and create actionable insights for continuous improvement.
4. Communication & Engagement
• Inspire Change: Develop and communicate a compelling vision for EDI, working with the Communications and Marketing teams to implement an inclusive communications strategy.
• Foster Connections: Empower staff-led networks that celebrate and amplify diverse voices, and create safe spaces for colleagues to share their experiences.
• Collaborate for Impact: Build strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, and industry stakeholders to drive real change.
• Advocate for Inclusion: Champion the benefits of a diverse workforce, ensuring all colleagues understand the positive impact on both business outcomes and individual experiences.
Your Experience
Essential
• Proven Leadership: Significant experience in leading, implementing, and promoting EDI strategies that drive real, sustainable change at a senior level.
• Relevant Expertise: Degree-level education or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline.
• In-Depth Knowledge: Expert understanding of EDI-related policies, trends, and legislation, with a solid grasp of challenges in achieving inclusivity, particularly in the membership/professional body sector.
• Stakeholder Management: Strong communication and networking skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, both internally and externally.
• Project Management: Demonstrated ability to design, plan, and manage complex programs, delivering results on time and within scope.
• Data Savvy: Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions and develop strategic recommendations.
• Confidential & Sensitive: Ability to handle issues with tact and discretion, managing sensitive matters with confidentiality.
Desirable
• Qualifications: Relevant ED&I qualifications or evidence of continuous professional development in the EDI space.
• Cultural Change: Proven experience leading cultural change across complex organizations.
• Inclusive Leadership: Experience working with diverse communities, including neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, and multi-faith groups.
