An exciting opportunity has arisen at Pitsford School for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Physics Teacher to join our busy Science Department. The person appointed will be able to encourage students to enjoy and succeed in Physics at all levels, from Year 7 up to Year 13, including Oxbridge preparation. The successful candidate for this post may be considered for Head of Physics. Brief Description of duties This job description describes in general terms the normal duties attached to this post. These may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the general character of the post. In addition to the teaching post, the Head of Physics post would also entail additional duties including teaching across year groups, supporting colleagues in the department, they will be expected to have oversight of the progress of students in their subject and to report on results annually to the Headmaster. The Head of Department will report to the Assistant Head Academic. The staff in the Physics Department work closely together, sharing ideas and resources. It is assumed that the Teacher of Physics, in common with other members of staff, will have the following academic and pastoral responsibilities: Form Tutor. Member of a duty team. Preparation and delivery of curriculum for Year 7 to Upper Sixth students. Contribute towards the running of extra-curricular pursuits. Participate in the Staff Appraisal system and in INSET training arranged by the School. General duties associated with the effective routines of the school. All Staff attend Open Days, Taster Days and other school events as well as INSET days and are expected to engage with their own Continued Professional Development. Teaching and Learning • Demonstrate significant knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum areas; • Demonstrate an extensive knowledge and well-informed understanding of the assessment requirements and arrangements for the subjects/curriculum areas they teach, including those related to public examinations and qualifications; • Work to ensure that all students achieve their academic potential and personal development in and out of the classroom; • Plan and deliver well-organised, challenging and inspiring lessons; • Demonstrate an extensive knowledge and understanding of how to use and adapt a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies; • Be flexible, creative and adept at designing learning within lessons and across lessons that is effective and consistently well-matched to learning objectives and the needs of learners.
