Job Summary

To lead and develop the Tormead Hockey Academy, supporting the School’s ambition to become a
national  centre  of  excellence  for  girls’  hockey.  The  post  combines  coaching  with  programme
leadership,  commercial  oversight  and  partnership  coordination.    Working  closely  with  the  Head  of
Hockey,  the  post  holder  will  run  twice-weekly  evening  academy  sessions,  manage  coaching  staff,
deliver paid holiday camps, and support Games lessons and fixtures across Prep and Senior.

To  be  responsible  for  marketing  all  academy  and  paid-for  hockey  opportunities,  working  with  the
Director  of  Sport,  Head  of  Hockey  and  External  Relations  to  grow  participation  and  raise  the
programme’s profile locally and nationally.

Main Responsibilities
Programme Leadership:

•  Design, organise, and staff the programme of paid-for holiday hockey camps, ensuring high

coaching standards and a positive participant experience.

•  Oversee the planning, delivery, and staffing of twice-weekly evening academy sessions.
•  Work alongside the Head of Hockey to align all academy activity with the wider school

hockey curriculum and performance goals.

•  Ensure that the academy sessions and camps remain financially sustainable through

effective planning, pricing, and programme design.

Coaching & Player Development:

•  Deliver high-quality coaching sessions across prep and senior hockey teams at Tormead

covering technical, tactical, physical, and indoor hockey development.

•  Support the delivery of a comprehensive midweek and weekend fixtures programme for

hockey, leading at least one age group within the programme.

•  Provide 1–2–1 coaching and mentoring for hockey players on the Talented Performer

Programme.

•  Use video analysis to support player learning, including clipping and reviewing footage.
•  Set and model excellent standards of coaching practice, behaviour, and professionalism.

Marketing, Growth & Community Engagement:

•  Lead the marketing of all paid-for hockey opportunities, including academy membership,

evening sessions, and holiday camps.

•  Work closely with the External Relations team to advertise hockey opportunities to the local

community, ensuring strong outreach and brand visibility.

•  Develop promotional materials, social media content, and targeted marketing actions to

maximise participation and income generation.

•  Support outreach work with local schools, clubs, and community groups to increase

engagement and expand the academy’s reach.

Partnerships:

•  Maintain and strengthen the partnership with Guildford Hockey Club (GHC), aligning training

schedules, coaching approaches, and player pathways.

•  Collaborate with GHC on joint initiatives such as shared camps, recruitment pathways, or

outreach events.

•  Represent Tormead Hockey professionally within club and county networks.

Operations, Logistics & Administration:

•  Manage all operational aspects of the academy, including registers, communications,

equipment, and facility bookings.

•  Coordinate logistics for fixtures, tournaments, pre-season programmes, and indoor hockey

schedules alongside the Head of Hockey

•  Deploy and supervise coaching staff for both academy sessions and camps, ensuring safe

ratios and high delivery standards.

•  Support match-day operations, including coaching, umpiring, and team management.

Continuing Professional Development:

•  Review own methods of teaching and programmes of work.
•  Evaluate own performance and be committed to improving own practice through CPD.
•  Engage actively in the performance review process.

General:

•  Use effective strategies for managing behaviour and encouraging students to act responsibly.
•  Maintain good order and discipline among students and safeguarding their health and safety
both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in
authorised school activities elsewhere.

•  Attend meetings as required (departmental, staff, pastoral, parent meetings, etc.).
•  Promote  the  school  in  a  variety  of  different  contexts,  including  attending  curriculum  and
marketing events, and interactions with parents and prospective parents and students.

•  Assist with supervision and covering for absent colleagues when required.
•  Support students and colleagues by attending school productions, functions, trips and events

as appropriate, and contributing to the wider co-curricular life of the School.

•  To promote and uphold the ethos and values of Tormead School.

•  England Hockey Level 2 coaching
qualification (or working towards
it with relevant coaching/playing
experience)
