We are an independent local charity based in Bosham, Chichester, offering a wide range of services to support our patients and their loved ones, who are living with a life-limiting or terminal illness. The work we do makes a real difference to the lives of local people, and we support over 330 patients at any one time across our services, including our 14-bed In-Patient Unit (IPU).

Being a Bank Senior Healthcare Assistant – Nights at St Wilfrid’s

Bank / 8.15pm – 7.45am 

We are looking for Bank Senior Healthcare Assistants to join our In-Patient Unit for night shifts, working from 8:15pm-7:45am. You will support Registered Nurses in delivering skilled palliative and end-of-life care, while playing a key role in ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients and their loved ones.

As a Senior HCA, you’ll play a key role in the team — not only providing personal and clinical care but also supporting colleagues, contributing to care planning, and ensuring the highest standards of dignity and respect are upheld.

Caring for patients and their loved ones at the end of life can be both rewarding and emotionally demanding. Emotional resilience is important, and you will be part of a dedicated team that provides support to one another.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe and compassionate personal care and support to patients with complex palliative needs
  • Undertake and record a range of clinical observations, reporting changes promptly to the Registered Nurse
  • Assist with extended duties (following training) such as wound care, catheter care, PEG feeding, and supporting with controlled drug checks
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their loved ones, including at times of bereavement
  • Contribute to care planning and monitoring of patients’ progress alongside the Registered Nurse
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, person-centred care

Qualifications and Experience

  • Applicants must have Right to Work in the UK
  • NVQ Level 3/ BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care or at least 1-year equivalent experience working in the Hospice sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of palliative and end-of-life care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to remain calm and resilient under pressure, with a compassionate and caring approach
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • IT skills to use electronic patient records
