Recruitment Pack: Senior Administrator

We’re
looking for a godly, highly competent Senior Administrator to strengthen the
administrative backbone of our gospel ministry. This is a richly varied role for a well-organised,
servant-hearted Christian who loves enabling others to flourish. Working under the Operations
Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day work of our office team, supporting pastoral staff by
managing administrative responsibilities and ensuring our people and buildings are ready for
ministry. You’ll collaborate with colleagues and volunteers, providing prayerful, practical support
behind the scenes. We need someone enthusiastic, approachable, and a natural team player—
someone who can offer servant leadership and keep operations running smoothly. You’ll work
alongside another Senior Administrator (focused on communications, events, and safeguarding),
with some overlap to ensure seamless coordination.

If you’re passionate about gospel work, thrive on organisation, and want to make a real
difference in a vibrant church family, we’d love to hear from you!

About us
St Andrew the Great (StAG) has a diverse congregation which reflects our location in Cambridge city
centre. We mainly comprise four groups of people: families and city (Cambridge resident) members,
internationals, undergraduates, and 20-30s. That said, our motto for all we do is the same: the
gospel to Cambridge; gospel workers to the world.

As a church, we depend upon God in prayer and put teaching the Bible at the heart of all we do as
we believe it equips us with all we need in living for His glory. In the past 25 years, there have been
three church “grafts” to other local parishes and, most recently, a church plant to Huntingdon in
2018. We are a member of ReNew, and the PCC has passed a resolution in line with the House of
Bishops’ declaration and receives additional oversight from the Bishop of Ebbsfleet.

Principal responsibilities
The Senior Administrator will be assisted by a team of Assistant Administrators (AAs), and it is
understood that some of the responsibilities below will be delegated to the AAs or others. Some of
these responsibilities will also be shared with the other Senior Administrator.

• Leadership: line managing and overseeing the day-to-day work of the Assistant

Administrators. Troubleshooting and handling queries to the office. Inputting to meetings
regarding admin/operations and communicating decisions. Depending on the gifts and
capacity of the candidate, this role may also line manage the intern team.

• Communications: inputting into the review, improvement, planning and delivery of our

communications, amongst the staff team and key volunteers, within the church family and
externally.

• Event logistics: overseeing (and delegating) logistics and practical resources for whole

church/team events (e.g. Christmas/Easter services, Refresh, Church Day Away,
Partnership Sunday, Book Sundays, staff retreat), and life events (weddings, funerals,
baptisms, including required legal documentation – eg. banns).

• General administration: planning ahead according to the church calendar, oversight of the
office team as first point of contact for congregation and external parties, coordinating
material and personnel for Sunday service (alongside music co-ordinator).

• HR and recruitment: overseeing our HR processes and policies, record-keeping, as well as
maintaining our bank of job descriptions. Visa sponsorship applications for staff from
overseas. Specific responsibility for intern recruitment and timetabling. Induction of staff.

• Systems and data handling: ensuring proper management church website, ChurchSuite,
and SharePoint, including shared access/user accounts. Maintaining membership records
(electoral roll), flow of information for pastoral care, ensuring legal compliance with data
protection regulations. Legally-required compliance and reporting to external bodies (eg.
Charity Commission, Church of England).

• Health and Safety: named H&S Officer and Responsible Person for Fire Safety. Reviewing

policies and risk assessments, ensuring compliance (eg. with annual safety checks).
Commercial kitchen oversight with food hygiene regulations.

•  Operations and church building: overseeing ad-hoc repairs, use of building, security;
invoice authorisation. Maintain systems; improving as capacity allows. Contracts for
services. Secretary to the Property Committee.

•  Residential property management: point of contact with property management company;

arrangement of summer house moves; utilities; occupancy/tenancy agreements.
• Member of staff team: participating in staff meetings and daily staff prayer meetings.
• Any other duties as appropriate to the role.

The candidate will need to demonstrate a commitment to flexibility. The key responsibilities and
job description may need revision over time as the needs of the role and the church change.

Package
The salary and package will be set according to prior training and experience, but is expected to be
in the range of £35,000-£39,000.

Whilst we would prefer to recruit someone for a full-time role (37.5 hours per week), for the right
candidate, a job share, or less than full-time arrangement may be considered (with package scaled
pro rata) - enquiries are welcome.

Normal working hours are Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm with half an hour for lunch. The role is
office based, in St Andrew the Great, St Andrew’s Street, Cambridge, CB2 3AX. Evening meetings
worked may be taken back as time off in lieu.

You would have 36 days holiday per year (inclusive of bank holidays). You would also be
encouraged to go on one conference for your personal benefit and on-going training, for which all
expenses would be paid (this does not count as holiday). The Senior Administrator is line managed
by the Operations Manager.

Application for the post
An Occupational Requirement exists for the postholder to be a practising Christian in accordance
with Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010. In order to be effective in post, the post-holder must also
be/become a committed member of our church family at St Andrew the Great. Applicants are
invited to indicate any adjustments that would help them apply for the role.

The selection procedure for the post will normally follow a process of shortlisting, taking up
references, and then interviews, which will include practical exercises.

St Andrew the Great takes the safety of everyone within the church very seriously and expects all
staff to work within the church safeguarding policy (see stag.org/safeguarding), complete the
necessary safeguarding training and a confidential declaration. The post is subject to an enhanced
DBS check (for non-regulated activity with children) and the person appointed will need to sign the
St Andrew the Great Leader’s Agreement and Statement of Faith each year.

At this stage we welcome both informal enquiries and actual applications. If you have any
questions about the role, please contact Kat West, Operations Manager (kat.west@stag.org).

Please send completed applications (including referee details) to the current Senior Administrator
(isobel.waspe@stag.org): the application form is available from https://www.stag.org/vacancies/.

The closing date for applications is Monday 19th January 2026, midday, although those interested
are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to complete a
Church of England Confidential Declaration form. Interviews will take place over the following two
weeks.

If no appointment is made after this initial round of interviews, we will continue to advertise the
post on our website. In this case, any subsequent applications will be considered at the point they
are received and candidates interviewed until we fill the post. Please check our website to see if
this post is still being advertised: https://www.stag.org/vacancies/

A start date of early April 2026 is envisaged, though for the right candidate we would be willing to
wait longer.
