North Croydon is a densely populated area, with many young families and a high proportion of children and young people. South Norwood is a bustling, diverse, friendly community, full of local pride. There’s a sense of belonging here that you don’t always find in busier parts of the capital. There is no denying the social challenges within our community which include poverty, isolation, addiction and homelessness. Both churches can and do play a vital part in supporting the community and have committed and outward looking congregations that share a desire to be as welcoming as they can be. St Marks has a church school and Holy Innocents is positioned next to a Council run family and community Hub. These offer ample opportunity for building partnership links with the wider community.
Our biggest challenge is how we grow and become financially viable whilst serving a deprived community. We are grateful for your consideration of this vacancy and very much hope that through prayer and reflection you will feel called to apply to be part of our next exciting chapter.
We are praying for a priest who is, or with our love, can grow to be:
- Someone from within whom the hope of the gospel message shines out
- A spiritual leader to develop and deepen the worship and faith of our congregations and community.
- Someone with both life experience and experience of running a parish, well organised and able to communicate with and inspire all
- Someone who is good at fundraising
- Someone who celebrates the rich cultural diversity that our benefice and community is blessed with
- Creative and innovative with pastoral care; Personable, caring and sincere, a kind listener with an infectious faith and with a sense of humour
- A team player able to work collaboratively with the ministry team, church wardens, PCCs, Church School and church volunteers
- Someone who can help us to build strong links with the community and engage with existing partnerships

To be appointed to an incumbent status post in the Diocese of Southwark, a priest must have served a title post in an Anglican church in the British Isles. We aim to be a diverse and truly representative Diocese, and particularly welcome applications from women and people of UKME heritage. This post is subject to DBS enhanced disclosure.
