Job Description
KS2 Teacher

Main Purpose
To be responsible for the planning, delivery, and assessment of the Key Stage 2 curriculum working alongside the
key stage 2 lead and senior leadership team, ensuring high-quality teaching tailored to the needs of pupils with
Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP)

Job Profile

Teaching and Curriculum Delivery
•  Design  and  deliver  a  comprehensive  and  enriched  curriculum  for  KS2  pupils,  incorporating  many

areas of the National Curriculum

•  Prioritise  the  development  of  key  skills,  including speaking  and  listening,  reading,  writing,  and

mathematics.

•  Conduct reading/phonics lessons, utilising structured approaches.
•  Adapt the curriculum effectively to meet the diverse needs of pupils, including  those with secondary
needs  such  as  ASD,  ADHD,  Sensory  Processing  Difficulties,  and  Communication  Interaction
Difficulties.
Ensure  lessons  are  carefully  planned  with clear  routines  and  boundaries to  create  a  structured  and
nurturing learning environment that promotes emotional regulation and security.

•  Use summative and formative assessment effectively to track pupil progress and differentiate work

Identify and implement targeted academic interventions to close the attainment gap, particularly in
mathematics and language comprehension.

•  Organise and lead educational visits and trips relevant to topic areas to expand cultural capital and

consolidate learning.

Pupil Support and Wellbeing
•  Manage  and  respond  to  challenging  behaviours  by  establishing  and  modelling strong  positive

relationships based on mutual respect and high expectations

•  Have  pastoral  responsibility  for  assessing,  planning,  implementing,  and  reviewing  targets  linked  to

each pupil’s EHCP.

•  Collaborate with external professionals and the school’s Pupil Support Team (which includes support
for  KS2  pupils  via  a  Key  Worker  system)  and  therapeutic  services  (SALT,  OT)  to  provide  holistic
support.
Implement  strategies  to  develop  pupils'  personal  skills,  independence  (one  of  the  school's  ISHARE
values), and expressive communication skills.

•  Contribute to a whole-school approach that promotes resilience and improves emotional wellbeing

Professional Responsibilities
•  Be fully committed to the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils, ensuring compliance with all related

policies and procedures.

•  Work effectively as a team member, liaising with colleagues, parents/carers, and governors.
•  Undertake  ongoing  training  opportunities  to  develop  personal  knowledge  of  the  SEMH  sector  and

trauma-informed practice.

and behaviour.

•  Carry out supervisory duties in accordance with published rotas.

Security, Health & Safety
•

Ensure  that  you  are  familiar  with  all  aspects  of  health  and  safety  including  security, fire  safety  and
emergency procedures, so that established good practices are adhered to.
Take part in and undertake any emergency fire drill or emergency evacuation.

required to do so or as instructed.
