Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) lessons to Key Stage 3 students, focusing on Years 7 and 8, ensuring alignment with the National Curriculum and school standards.
- Lead and support the development, implementation, and evaluation of an integrated STEAM curriculum that promotes interdisciplinary learning and creativity.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to teaching staff within the STEAM department, fostering professional growth and innovative teaching practices.
- Use data effectively to monitor student progress and implement strategies to improve academic outcomes across all STEM subjects which are accessible to both students and parents.
- Promote scientific inquiry, technological innovation, engineering design, artistic creativity, and mathematical problem-solving through practical investigations and project-based learning.
- Collaborate with school leadership and other departments to contribute to whole-school initiatives, strategic planning, and STEM-related events.
- Manage department resources, including technology, laboratory equipment, maker spaces, and learning materials efficiently.
- Organize and support extracurricular activities such as STEM clubs, robotics competitions, coding workshops, and creative arts projects to enrich student experiences.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student well-being, engagement, and collaborative learning.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress, expectations, and department activities.
- Participate actively in whole-school leadership meetings and contribute to school-wide policy development and improvement plans.
Professional Expextations:
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- Proven leadership experience within STEM education or related educational settings.
- Significant experience teaching STEM subjects to lower secondary or Key Stage 3 students.
- Demonstrated success in interdisciplinary curriculum leadership and staff development.
- Experience in data-driven instruction and student performance management.
- Deep subject knowledge and passion for STEM education and innovation.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and develop a team of teachers across multiple disciplines.
- Proficient in educational technology, laboratory safety, and maker space management.
- Committed to fostering a culture of high expectations, creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Child Safeguarding:
- Attend regular in-house child protection and safeguarding programmes and sign a Code of Conduct;
- Play a leading role in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all students in the school;
- Report to the Designated or Deputy Safeguarding Lead any concerns they have for the welfare of a student;
- Report to the Designated or Deputy Safeguarding Lead any unsafe practices witnessed within the school as outlined in The School’s Speak Out Policy;
- Keep professional relationships with students where personal boundaries are respected and maintained.
Requirements:
- International Child Protection Certificate (ICPC) prior to the start of the contract
- Formal proof of identity with photo ID (Original Driving License/ Passport)
- 3 signed, confidential references (one of which will be from the candidate’s current headteacher) before the start of the contract;
- Verification of original qualifications.
