About YMCA St Paul’s Group:

YMCA St Paul's Group is a charity that aims to support and empower young people and communities throughout London by providing life-changing youth work, essential community services, inclusive health and wellbeing centres, and supported accommodation for those who are at risk of homelessness. The organisation aims to create thriving places for young people and flourishing communities. With a commitment to long-term transformation in mind, body, and spirit, YMCA St Paul's Group has served the community for over 150 years.

About the Role:

As Group Director of People & Culture, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of YMCA St Paul’s Group (SPG). Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and sitting on the Executive Team, you will provide visionary leadership for our People and Culture function, ensuring we continue to be a place where staff, volunteers, and communities can thrive.
This is a unique opportunity to lead with both professional expertise and faith-informed values. You will develop and drive an ambitious People Strategy that champions inclusivity, embeds our Christian ethos, and creates a culture where every individual feels a sense of belonging and purpose. Alongside stewarding our ethos, you will inspire and support managers and teams across the organisation to realise their full potential, aligning people practices with our mission of empowering young people and fostering flourishing communities.
Your portfolio will span strategic HR leadership, organisational development, chaplaincy oversight, and cultural transformation. You will guide and mentor senior leaders within HR, shared services, and chaplaincy, ensuring excellence in employment practice, safeguarding, diversity and inclusion, and workforce development. With responsibility for financial stewardship of People and Culture budgets, you will also ensure resources are used wisely to deliver long-term impact.
As the senior voice for People and Culture, you will work closely with the Board of Trustees, partner with external stakeholders, and represent SPG within the wider YMCA Federation regionally, nationally, and internationally. This role demands both strategic vision and servant-hearted leadership, someone who can hold together our commitment to professional excellence and our calling to live out the Christian ethos at the heart of YMCA.
Your role is integral to the YMCA St. Paul’s Group, contributing significantly to our mission of offering high-quality services tailored to our customers’ needs. As part of our Executive Team, your expertise will not only lead your department but also shape the future direction of our Charity.

What we offer:

At YMCA St. Paul's Group, we prioritise improving diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the services we provide. We value your authenticity and unique voice and encourage you to share your opinions. You will have the opportunity to be a catalyst for change by actively participating in our Employee Resource Groups.

As a team member, you can learn, grow, and reach your full potential. We are committed to your development and will support your personal growth journey. Our comprehensive learning and development program includes training, qualifications, and on-the-job experience, ensuring that you have the skills necessary for your role while offering continuous development and advancement opportunities.

In addition, you will have access to a range of benefits which will support you in mind, body, and spirit, which include:

Free gym access across our sites.

Discounts from major retailers and supermarkets.

Free access to well-being and counselling services.

The ability to work from a range of outer London work locations.

Career development programmes to help you thrive.

Family-friendly policies to help you balance work-life, including enhanced maternity pay.
