Architect/Surveyor for St. Mary Magdalene Church
The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Mary Magdalene wishes to appoint an architect/surveyor to lead a programme of urgent repair.
The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Mary Magdalene in Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen, Kings Lynn, PE34 3DG wishes to appoint an architect/surveyor to lead a programme of urgent repairs, initially to the upper part of the Church tower. This part of the tower has been cordoned off for safety reasons.
Our existing quinquennial architect has had to resign from this project due to time constraints elsewhere. We are, therefore, looking to appoint an experienced conservation accredited architect, or surveyor, to take this project forward. A recent schedule of estimated costs, puts the essential works for this initial project at circa £50,000, including professional fees and VAT.
This is the first and most urgent phase in a much larger programme of repairs to remove the Church building from the Heritage at Risk Register. As a result, following this work we would be looking to tender (as required by major funders) for an architect/surveyor to lead the major project of circa £500,000 and carry out the next quinquennial inspection, due in 2030.
The PCC has significant funds available to cover the first project. Whilst we will need a grant for the major project, this first project will not be reliant on grant funding.
We would like to invite you to apply for this opportunity. In the first instance please express your interest to Tony Kenber FCA – Secretary of the PCC, E mail address tonykenber@btinternet.com and mobile 07428 618001 who will send you further details and an application form.
The deadline to receive quotes for the first phase of works is Friday 24 July 2026.
