The Vacancy

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a faith-based humanitarian relief and development organisation working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Established in 1984, with an active presence in over 45 countries, we strive to make the world a better and fairer place for those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disasters.

IRW’s Office of General Counsel Division is recruiting for the position of ‘Safeguarding officer’ to join its Safeguarding team, based out of its offices in Birmingham, UK. The organisation currently operates to a hybrid working model.

The Safeguarding Officer will support the Safeguarding Department implementation and monitoring of its policies, procedures, and practices across all areas of Islamic Relief Worldwide. The role will focus supporting both head office and country-based teams in embedding safeguarding standards, training and awareness raising, case management, reporting, compliance, and data analysis. This position requires high levels of integrity, confidentiality, and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Good knowledge and experience of Safeguarding, PSEAH, and Child Safeguarding.
  • Integrity, discretion, and emotional intelligence when handling sensitive issues.
  • Strong organisational skills, diligence and reliability, ensuring the delivery of high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively across cultural and professional settings.
  • Continuous learning and professional development, with a proactive attitude.
  • Faith awareness, tolerance, and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to think creatively and laterally in overcoming challenges.
  • Good computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally.
  • Good emotional intelligence and resilience.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in their work.
