Community Engagement Officer

We’re seeking a passionate and driven individual to join our Community Welfare and Inclusion team, delivering life-changing programmes across Burnley, Pendle, and East Lancashire!

Job Title: Community Engagement Officer

Department: Youth Engagement

Location: Various locations across Burnley and Pendle

Contract Type: Fixed Term until 31st December 2026

Working Pattern: 28 hours per week, worked across 4 days

Closing Date: Wednesday, 26th November 2025

Salary: £22,300 - £24,500 per annum (Pro-Rata)

The Role

To deliver across our busy and diverse Community Welfare and Inclusion department which delivers programmes, projects and sessions across the Burnley, Pendle and East Lancashire areas. In this role you will use the influence of sport to deliver positive change in the lives of under-represented or vulnerable groups and individuals within the local community.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To engage, inspire and empower people to reach their full potential.
  • To support the development and delivery of high-quality, impactful sport, youth engagement and health and wellbeing sessions in areas of high need across Burnley and Pendle and the wider East Lancashire area.
  • To support a number of projects with their delivery, namely programmes within our Health and Wellbeing and Youth Engagement department.
  • To work closely on the ‘Academy in the Community’ project, working to form relationships between Academy Scholars, staff, and the Community Department as a whole.
  • Helping to arrange programme visits with Academy Scholars, acting as a key link for the project between Academy and Community staff.
  • Ensure reporting requirements are met on the Academy in the Community project.
  • Work with individuals and/or groups from a range of diverse backgrounds.
  • Support staff upskilling events.
  • Work closely with our partnerships team to generate ideas and to attend events to promote the Charity.
  • Generate new ideas as to how the Community Welfare and Inclusion department can be developed further, whilst ensuring high quality of delivery.
  • Target areas of greatest need, working with staff to identify and respond to the need.
  • Promote all projects in schools and in community settings across, Burnley, Pendle and East Lancashire to ensure that projects achieve their Key Performance Indictors (KPI’s).
  • Consider equality, diversity and inclusion in all activities linked to projects with particular focus around female engagement, SEND, and ethnically diverse communities.
  • Support the department to ensure all activities are correctly monitored with the appropriate risk assessments, safeguarding and health and safety procedures in place.
  • To lead on data collection, ensuring Salesforce and other reporting platforms are consistently up to date.
  • To build and maintain strong partnerships with local, regional and national organisations to enhance programmes.
  • To understand and implement the Charity’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines in your role. To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to a safe environment.
  • To be able to work flexible hours where the role of the job requires.
  • To work towards agreed objectives.
  • Comply with all Charity policies.
  • Promote the Burnley FC in the Community brand and ethos in a professional, strong, and positive manner.
  • Work alongside other team members to support in other areas of the organisation as and when required to promote best practice.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Level 2 multi-sport qualification(s) (or equivalent).
  • Mathematics and English qualifications at Grade C or above.
  • Experience of coaching or working with young people and/or adults.
  • An understanding and passion for improving opportunities for disadvantaged people and under- represented groups or individuals in our communities.
  • An understanding of safeguarding procedures.
