The Archer Project started over 30 years ago and has developed into a forward-thinking charity that supports adults experiencing homelessness to achieve a fulfilling and enjoyable life.
We are looking for someone to join our Engagement Service. This service provides a safe environment within which people can feel a sense of belonging, build trusting relationships and increase their awareness of, and have access to, accommodation and health and wellbeing services. The primary aim of the role is to build relationships with people who are using the service through one-to-one person-centred conversations, supporting people to reflect and to believe they can make progress to overcome challenges and achieve their aims.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To welcome people to the Engagement service adhering to our eligibility criteria: homeless or vulnerably housed and / or not in receipt of benefits.
- To work as part of a team, building trusting relationships with people who attend the service
- To offer one-to-one support to help individuals to access accommodation, benefits, health care and specialist services
- To develop interests and motivation via easy engagement activities and spark conversations
- To understand trauma-informed approaches to working with vulnerable adults with complex needs, and use those approaches to improve engagement and relationship building
- To attend and contribute to reflective practice sessions in order to learn, develop and embed trauma informed practices
- Contribute to multi-agency working to provide a holistic, coherent, consistent approach to support
- Liaise with the Archer Project’s Stability Team to enable an individual’s transition to activity attendance, volunteering, and learning opportunities
- Adhere to Archer Project’s policies and procedures
- Maintain high standards of health and safety at all times
- Ensure ‘In-Form’ (Customer Management System) is updated with individuals’ personal information, action plans, outcomes etc.
- Participate in internal / external meetings as required, and attend networking / training events, conferences, and other functions as necessary
- Other tasks as may be required, consistent with the duties and grade of the post.
Key Contractual Terms:
a) Salary: £26,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
b) Contract type: Full-time, permanent.
c) Work pattern: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Some out-of-hours flexibility is required.
d) Location: Sheffield City Centre
e) Holidays: 33 days per annum pro-rata (including public holidays).
f) Pension scheme: People’s Pension is our pension provider. We contribute at the statutory rates (7% Employer’s contribution, 5% employee contribution) if you have been auto enrolled (after 3 months in post).
g) Benefits: Subsidised meals when based at the main Project site. Staff discount for Printed by Us merchandise (30% off). Free onsite parking (subject to availability). Eligibility for Blue Light Card.
h) Probationary period: Appointment subject to 3-month review period, which may be subject to extension.
i) DBS check: Appointment subject to successful undertaking of an Enhanced DBS check.

2) Having permanent UK residency is mandatory: https://www.gov.uk/right-of-abode We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship.
3) You must be at least 18 years old.
4) We are unable to accept applicants with unspent criminal convictions or who are subject to criminal registers / orders.
We only have 1 Engagement Support Worker post available. The deadline for all applications is 12:00 noon on Friday 17th October 2025. Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 27th October 2025.
The interview process consists of two stages: the first is a formal interview with the Engagement Manager and Head of Operations, followed by a second stage which includes time spent working within the Archer Project and a subsequent follow-up interview.
