This position is funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and is available from 1 March 2026 to contract end date of 28 February 2030.
We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher who is passionate about working alongside a group of motivated PhD students and supervisors to serve as Project Manager.
Educated to PhD standard in a related subject or possessing equivalent professional research or industry experience, the Project Manager will play a central role in the Bangor University’s management and coordination of the EU ARTHURS project encompassing the project’s administration, legal, financial, communication and organisational aspects.
The successful candidate will be expected to commence in post from the 1st March 2026.
The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.
This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Overview
The successful candidate will become part of the EU ARTHURS research team co-ordinated by PI Prof. Raluca Radulescu, Bangor University. The Project Manager will play a central role in the Bangor University’s management and coordination of the EU ARTHURS project encompassing the project’s administration, legal, financial, communication and organisational aspects as well as contributing to the wider project work packages where tasks are assigned to Bangor University. The position will combine project management for a large-scale research network and other research-associated duties as outlined below.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network European Arthurs, Medieval to Modern (EU ARTHURS – grant agreement 101226326) - funded by the EU and by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation - will bring together 11 doctoral students, several EU academic and academic-related associate partners in the UK and Switzerland and has a total budget of around €3 million.
European Arthurs, Medieval to Modern’ (EUARTHURS) examines, for the first time, in cross-cultural synchronic and diachronic ways, the conceptualisation and the transmission of Arthurian matter in its move from its origins in early medieval narratives from Wales into other geographical and linguistic areas in Europe in the Middle Ages, into other genres and art forms that endure to the present day.
Purpose of the Job
The Project Manager will manage all training, operational, and financial aspects of the project, working with the academic project co-ordinator Prof. Raluca Radulescu and will also conduct their own research related to the project.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Duties will include, but not be limited, to the following:
- Manage the day-to-day operational aspects of EUARTHURS and co-coordinating researcher activity.
- Co-mentoring 11 PhD research students, by organising their training and secondments with the academic coordinator.
- Ensure completion of project documentation in accordance with the grant agreement, keeping documentation updated and correctly filed. Preparing periodic scientific and financial reports.
- Have a clear picture of the project’s deliverables and timelines, ensuring co-ordination between partners and timely delivery.
- Conduct research aligned with the ARTHURS project themes and objectives under the guidance of the project coordinators, and present findings at project plenary meeting(s).
- Lead cross-sector collaboration within and beyond the EU ARTHURS network, building effective working relationships with industry partners, the Scientific Advisory Board, and the European Commission to drive project delivery.
- Play a central role in communicating and disseminating ARTHURS research outputs, preparing high-quality content for project reports, the project website, and social media channels.
- Organise and participate in research and training events, including arranging venues and travel related to project meetings and training sessions.
- Participate in formal training delivery, in line with their area of research expertise.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
- PhD in a related subject or equivalent professional research or industry experience.
- Experience of research administration, financial reporting, and report writing, particularly in the management and delivery of EU projects or project management experience, or equivalent, including of large grants.
Experience/Knowledge

- Thorough understanding of the research environment both nationally and internationally.
Desirable
- Experience with datasets of specialist material (medieval manuscripts, early printed books, artefacts, etc.), both in assembling data and presenting it in formats suitable for storage as well as website sharing.
Skills/Abilities

- Excellent oral and written communication skills with fluency in English.
- Demonstrated capacity for teamwork and enthusiasm for working in a research team, preferably in a higher education environment or equivalent.
- Self-motivation, flexibility, and willingness to acquire new skills.
- Experience with events management.
- Strong attention to process, detail, and documentation with the ability to manage competing demands of work and to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to occasionally travel to research and training events in Europe and the UK.
- A commitment to developing their own transferable skills and research profile to advance their employability prospects beyond the end of the contract period.
