The Vacancy

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is a faith-based humanitarian relief and development organisation working to save and transform the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Established in 1984, with an active presence in over 45 countries, we strive to make the world a better and fairer place for those affected by poverty, conflict and natural disasters.

IRW’s Finance & Corporate Services Division is recruiting for the position of ‘International Finance Officer (Internal Only)’ to join its dynamic team based out of its offices in Birmingham, UK.

The International Finance Officer will provide key financial support to the International Accountant and Donor Reporting Accountant assisting with financial management, control, reporting, and compliance for Islamic Relief World wide’s Projects, Orphans & Seasonal and related donor-funded programmes.

The role will involve maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, performing reconciliations, monitoring balance sheet control, producing aged creditors and debtors’ reports, and supporting the preparation of internal and donor reports and audit readiness.

This is a developmental role that would suit a candidate studying towards a professional finance qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA), with strong financial acumen and a commitment to building practical experience within a financial control environment.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Degree in Accounting and Finance with A-levels or actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CMA); part-qualified candidate’s welcome.
  • Strong understanding of basic financial accounting principles and practice
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting and balance sheet control
  • Understanding of aged creditors and debtors’ processes and ability to assist in chasing outstanding balances
  • Ability to prepare reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts (debtors, creditors, accruals, prepayments)
  • Good understanding of the financial management lifecycle for projects and grants (desirable)
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems; ERP experience desirable
  • Good analytical and numerical skills, with attention to detail
