Direct Tax Manager

About the role

As a Partner in our business, your primary focus is to collaboratively create enhanced value for both our customers and our business. In the role of Direct Tax Manager, you will assume complete responsibility for direct tax compliance, reporting, and advisory functions across the group. A crucial aspect of this position involves aiding the Tax Lead in formulating direct tax strategies and policies for the Partnership, while also offering guidance to senior stakeholders on tax matters concerning pan-Partnership activities.

Effective leadership is essential in many areas, encompassing leadership assignment management, talent cultivation, and the mentorship of Partners within the Tax team. This role presents a valuable opportunity for individuals possessing a blend of technical skills and advisory experience. We are seeking someone with the ability to take charge of processes, promote development and improvement across a business that offers an exciting level of challenge on a regular basis.

  • Salary-£75,000 - £105,000.
  • Contract type-This is a permanent position.
  • Working pattern/flexible working-The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Tax team typically aims for 1-2 days a week in the office.
  • Location-This role is based at our Pimlico head office.

Key responsibilities

● Review of direct tax returns prior to submission to the relevant tax authorities.

● Prepare and review the direct tax numbers and prepare the tax disclosure notes in accordance with IFRS for inclusion in the annual and interim financial statements.

● Monitor and mitigate direct tax risks by ensuring direct tax-related controls are operated correctly and are fit for purpose.

● Managing projects and leading on Direct Tax aspects on these projects.

● Review and communicate legislative changes and case-law.

● Liaise with other functions e.g. Internal Audit, Property, People to identify and advise on new business and corporate initiatives.

● Identify opportunities to optimise the Partnership’s tax position, ensuring that arrangements are managed and implemented in line with the Partnership tax strategy.

● Support the Tax Lead in the identification and development of the overall Tax Strategy and Tax Policies for the Partnership.

● Responsible with support from the Tax Lead in terms of Senior Accounting Officer and Corporate Criminal Offence requirements.

● Communicate these policies to the business as required.

● Maintain good working relationships with external tax advisers and HMRC.

● Line management responsibility for a Direct Tax Assistant Manager and a Finance Analyst, Tax.

Essential skills/experience you’ll need

  • CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification, with extensive corporate tax work experience.

  • People management experience.

Desirable skills/experience you may have

  • Good understanding of other tax areas.

  • Experience with tax aspects of property transactions.

  • Technology and how it can help improve direct tax processes.
