Overview:
St Luke’s is a beautiful Parish Church, located in Whyteleafe, a local village, within the Tandridge district of Surrey, with the benefit of the vicarage next to the churchyard, a lovely detached four-bedroom home, with private gardens surrounding the house.
Six years ago, the appointment of two part-time vicars, ensured a visionary focus on both St. Luke’s church in Whyteleafe and St Peter and St. Paul’s church in neighbouring Chaldon. Each vicar supported the other, on a part time basis, with each taking on a shared responsibility for both churches while focusing on their own church.
St Luke’s benefits from a supportive and active congregation and we are currently looking to recruit a new part-time vicar, who will continue working with Revd. Helen Burnett, the vicar at St Peter and St Paul’s, someone is looking for a new challenge, forward-thinking and works well as part of a team; you will be supported by four church wardens and pro- active PCC’s.
The ideal candidate:
A passionate person, willing to encompass traditional ways of the church and bringing new and fresh ideas to develop and expand our style of different services, with the following attributes:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, to appreciate others understanding of tradition and be ‘inclusive’ in your thinking.
- Happy to work in the local and wider community, particularly as both churches are active in supporting charitable and local projects.
- Confident IT skills, supported by the Parish Administrator, who works across both churches.
- Confident to be involved in the various Committees, forming part of the work of the PCC and to Chair the PCC meetings.
About us:
Both St Luke’s and St Peter & St Paul churches, are central to our local communities and this is an exciting time for a pro-active forward thinking vicar, to play a pivotal role in continuing our traditional style of worship, but confident to ‘stamp’ your own style in leading our services, and developing St. Luke’s church in the context of our community.
Our Mission Action Plan for 2025 to 2028 highlights our focus covering Growth, Children and Diversity, Deepening Discipleship. The Whyteleafe Parish, Healing and Finance. Further details are included in our recruitment pack.
For an informal conversation with the Acting Archdeacon, Revd Helen Cook, please contact helen.cook@southwark.anglican.org to arrange a mutually convenient appointment.
