Hours: 28 hours per week (job share considered)

Salary: £30,559 per annum full time equivalent, Actual £24,447.20 per annum (NJC Point 18)

Contract: Fixed term (with potential for extension)

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new, innovative peer support service helping people newly diagnosed with HIV and/or Hepatitis C (HCV) across Leeds and Wakefield.

About the Role

As a Peer Navigator, you’ll draw on your own lived experience of HIV and/or HCV to provide compassionate, one-to-one support to people at the point of diagnosis or re-engagement via Emergency Departments. You will offer practical advice, emotional support, and referrals to additional services, helping people feel seen, heard and empowered.

You’ll also play a key role in building a team of peer mentors, creating a strong, supportive network across clinical and community settings.                                         

You will need:

  • Lived experience of HIV and/or HCV
  • Experience of working with people from marginalised communities and people who experience multiple disadvantage
  • Be solution focused and proactive, with excellent communication skills and an ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with service users, volunteers and other professionals.
  • Knowledge of the welfare, housing and support systems available across Leeds and Wakefield

The role will involve:

  • Working co-productively with people living with or affected by HIV and/or HCV in Leeds and the Wakefield district.
  • Focusing on outcomes, building resilience and giving people the skills and tools, they need to self-manage.
  • Ensuring that all services delivered are easy to access, understandable and easy to navigate.
  • Delivering high quality support, using insight to continuously improve how we work.
  • Advocacy and liaison with other providers across Leeds and Wakefield.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the best outcomes for people living with HIV and/or HCV.
  • Working in accordance with BHA’s policies and procedures
